Senior Tunnel Engineer/Project Manager

Senior Tunnel Engineer / Project Manager – Mott MacDonald We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Tunnel Engineer / Project Manager to support our Toronto tunnels team. In this position you will work alongside our geotechnical and structural engineers on local, national and global projects.

Responsibilities

Develop design solutions and associated deliverables drawing on deep knowledge of geotechnical and structural skills, including tunnel, shaft, support of excavation, and underground structure design.

Provide technical guidance and leadership in developing solutions for underground projects, especially in water/wastewater and transit markets.

Conduct constructability and biddability reviews.

Deliver design packages, including writing reports and specifications.

Provide leadership on matters of underground engineering practice, including codes and standards, calculations, and construction drawings.

Manage project or design packages, collaborating with external and internal stakeholders, quality control, and managing inputs from other team members.

Liaise with the client, attend progress meetings, and produce reports on progress.

Advance the team’s capability by promoting technical excellence and digital innovation.

Support the company in winning future projects through business development efforts and proposal delivery.

Qualifications

Strong academic background: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering (Master’s considered an asset).

At least 10 years of relevant project experience in structural/geotechnical engineering design & construction for tunnels, shafts and other underground structures; experience with water/wastewater projects in the GTHA and tunnel design/project management considered an asset.

Licensed P.Eng in Ontario required (or ability to obtain within a short period).

Effective communication, interpersonal, teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with all levels and mentor junior staff.

Advanced knowledge of innovative underground structure solutions using current design standards and guidelines.

Familiarity with numerical analysis software (geotechnical/structural).

Ability and enthusiasm for supervising work, including check and approval of key deliverables.
