1 – Temporary Full Time – Registered Practical Nurse Systemic Oncology Pre and Post It is a condition of this posting that your home unit can accommodate your temporary absence in the event you are successful.

This position will involve working the day shifts. The shift is not to be interpreted as a guarantee.

About the Role: The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Reporting to the Manager for Clinic Operations, Nursing, Systemic Therapy, Palliative and Supportive Care you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to a patient population with predictable outcomes. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, you will practice within the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Philosophy of patient and family centred care, mission vision, values and the policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Qualifications:

Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Current certification in BCLS.

DeSouza Foundations in Oncology Course (or willing to obtain within 2 years of hire).

Minimum 3 years recent clinical experience in Oncology and/or Outpatient Clinic Nursing with experience in the care of oncology patients receiving supportive therapies.

Recent experience assisting with procedures such as Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy, Lumbar Puncture.

Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.

Collaborates with Registered Nurse's when patients assigned to the Registered Practical Nurse become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected.

Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action.

Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions.

Strong interprofessional and communication skills.

Experience in obtaining, labeling and reviewing specimens.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following:

LEAP Course (Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care).

Have a certification, or recent continuing education in Oncology Nursing.

Salary Range: $37.175 to $38.160
