In-House Legal Counsel
About The Role
We’re on the lookout for proactive, outcome-driven In‑House Legal Counsel to join our collaborative and highly effective team. And we love snacks! You’ll have the freedom to run your own files, collaborate with smart, supportive colleagues, utilize cutting‑edge legal technology, and do work that matters—without the pretense (or the billable hours…)
What You’ll Do Here
Lead insurance defence files from kickoff to resolution—with any support that you need.
Run the show at applications, questioning, mediations, pre‑trials, and trials with confidence.
Craft crisp opinions, affidavits, briefs, and memoranda that move matters forward.
Deliver practical, engaging legal education sessions to our claims team.
Build strong, responsive relationships with claims professionals and adjusters.
Prepare for and attend trials and applications at all levels of Court, and many tribunals.
What You Bring To The Table
Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
4–12 years of insurance litigation experience.
Proven skill in managing production and taking matters through trial.
Top‑tier organization—you juggle multiple files independently and with ease.
Empathy and people skills that build trust with clients and colleagues.
Excellent written and verbal communication, plus solid research and negotiation abilities.
ADR savvy, including independently preparing for and conducting mediations.
Bonus expertise in any of the following: construction, CGL, specialty lines, auto/transportation, long‑haul trucking, E&O, D&O, employment, subrogation.
