ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Our ELA Adelaide Office is searching for a passionate and driven environmental approvals specialist to join our South Australian team.
As a Senior to Principal Environmental Consultant within our Adelaide based team, you will provide leadership, strategic thinking, and technical support for our environmental approvals and closure projects across South Australia. You will operate within a team of environmental approvals specialists to meet our client’s project needs while delivering positive environmental solutions in line with our vision.

As a Senior or Principal environmental professional, you will join the office’s Leaders, consisting of other technical discipline specialists, and report to the South Australian Approvals Team Leader. This is a position that can influence the direction of our South Australian business, the quality of our environmental services, and supporting a team in line with the company’s values, and your own.
The Senior/Principal Environmental Consultant will play a critical role in further strengthening our approval capabilities in South Australia. This position requires an experienced approvals specialist with expertise in South Australian projects requiring both state and federal approvals. The successful candidate will lead approvals projects, prepare baseline and impact assessment scopes of work, interpret specialist reports, prepare high-quality technical reports, and provide approvals and regulatory support to a variety of environmental approvals and management projects.
Key responsibilities
Lead approvals projects, including scoping, planning, scheduling, regulatory engagement, and supervision of project teams
Provide technical expertise in South Australian and Commonwealth approvals legislation
Analyse and interpret subject matter expert data to support environmental impact assessments, approvals, and compliance
Prepare clear, robust project reports and contribute to environmental impact statements and approvals documentation
Mentor and support junior technical staff within the team
Collaborate closely with internal teams (Groundwater, Surface Water, Ecology) and external stakeholders
Maintain and develop professional networks and keep up-to-date with environmental and planning regulations, methodologies, and best practice
Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation and policies

We think you will love this role if you’re the type of person who:
Technical
Has a relevant science or engineering degree
Has a background in Environmental Approvals and/or Mine Closure
Has around 10+ years industry experience, with experience delivering projects, ideally under South Australian legislation such as the Planning, Development, and Infrastructure Act; and/or the Mining Act
Is experienced in preparing referral documentation under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
Can demonstrate a track record of delivering complex approvals projects
Works well in a team and is able to mentor staff within your technical expertise
Leadership

Promotes initiatives to ensure ongoing wellbeing and safety of staff
Can lead and manage a project team to reach their collective potential and meet project targets
Has shown capabilities in building and maintaining client relationships to deliver high quality products and services
