WARRRL (Western Australia Return Recycle Renew Limited), the not-for-profit organisation behind Containers for Change, is seeking a passionate and strategic leader to join the team as Head of Community & Partnerships. This role is an exceptional opportunity to champion community connection and drive participation in one of WA’s most important environmental and social sustainability initiatives.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, the Head of Community & Partnerships is responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives that engage communities, inspire behavioural change, and grow Scheme participation across Western Australia. You’ll oversee a dedicated team focussed on education, fundraising, events, and sector partnerships ensuring Containers for Change becomes a central fundraising and impact tool for local communities, sporting codes, schools, First Nations groups, charities, and local government areas.
With direct accountability for the sporting sector you’ll develop and strengthen partnerships, deliver measurable community outcomes, and lead a high performing team that thrives on innovation, trust, and purpose. You’ll also work closely with internal stakeholders to align marketing, media, and engagement outcomes with WARRRL’s broader business objectives.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead community engagement and strategic partnership programs across WA to grow participation in the Container Deposit Scheme
Develop, implement and monitor strategies that build awareness, brand trust and container recovery, particularly within the sporting sector
Drive performance, planning, budgeting, and innovation across the function, ensuring all initiatives are value driven and aligned with key metrics
Represent WARRRL externally with professionalism and integrity building strong, long term relationships with key partners, stakeholders, and community groups
Oversee fundraising and education initiatives, driving container recovery through schools, councils, First Nations communities, sporting clubs, charities and more
Manage and mentor a team of Community Engagement professionals, fostering a high performance culture and collaborative way of working
Collaborate with Brand & Marketing, Business Development, and senior leaders to deliver integrated campaigns and maximise engagement outcomes
Use data and reporting tools to monitor impact, performance, and continuous improvement across the portfolio
Ensure a strong connection to WARRRL’s values, Reconciliation Action Plan commitments, and sustainability vision
What We’re Looking For
Senior level experience in community engagement, partnerships, stakeholder relations, or social impact initiatives
Excellent networks with a strong understanding of WA’s diverse community landscape, particularly within the sporting community
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and issues management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across sectors
Demonstrated success in delivering complex engagement strategies and leading adaptive, community-focussed programs
Financial and strategic acumen, with experience managing large program budgets and evaluating impact
Experience working across a wide range of settings including diverse communities, local government, charities, and corporate partners
Exceptional leadership capability, with proven experience building high performing teams and coaching others to succeed
Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work across teams, functions and portfolios to deliver business goals
Background or network in sport administration, grassroots codes or sector leadership is highly regarded
