The Royal Canadian Geographical Society is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Education to oversee all the educational programs the Society offers. Reporting to the vice-president of operations and working very closely with the editor-in-chief and the director of brand and creative, the director of education also supervises the education team and ensures the Society’s strategic plans and leadership requirements as they pertain to education are met. This position is responsible for seeking and securing funding for existing and new educational programs. The director of education also works closely with senior management to facilitate effective partnerships and relationships to advance geographic literacy throughout Canada by seeking and securing funding for existing and new educational programs. Responsibilities

Seeks and secures new partnerships to support the development and implementation of new and existing RCGS programs and projects. Researches and writes program proposals that connect to the education system, and works to update existing programs to continuously meet the changing and pedagogical needs of educators within the RCGS’ network. Supervises staff members responsible for developing and delivering educational programs, projects, materials and resources for the RGCS. Provides input and guidance during internal and external meetings pertaining to education planning and program development in line with the editorial, partnerships, development and strategic plan objectives of the Society. Provides timely and accurate updates and reports to senior management and RCGS’ boards on the status and success of programs. Facilitates a successful relationship with the Executive Committee alongside the education programs manager. Represents Canadian Geographic Education at national and international conferences on geographic awareness and education. Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years teaching in the K-12 Education system. Experience creating relevant, engaging, age appropriate education resources for teachers working in the K-12 education systems across the country Strong leadership and communications skills. Ability to navigate a fast-paced working environment while handling multiple projects and deadlines. Proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent problem-solving skills, research skills, and ability to follow through with a high sense of urgency. Sound judgment, tact, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Team-oriented and committed to supporting the needs of our partners. Possesses the ability to work well with limited supervision. Master’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution with a specialization in Geography, Education or relevant disciplines (e.g., Social Studies, Earth Science, Environmental Science with preference in geography specialization) would be an asset.
