Icon Water is an iconic Canberra business with a history of providing essential services to Canberra for over 100 years.
Icon Water’s primary business is the delivery of water, sewerage and associated services. It owns and operates the ACT's network of dams, treatment plants, mains and other related infrastructure. Icon Water is also a 50% partner in the ActewAGL energy business which operates in the ACT and surrounding regions through retail and distribution partnerships.
Icon Water is an unlisted public company owned by the ACT Government through responsible Ministers as the Voting Shareholders in accordance with the Territory‑owned Corporations Act 1990 (ACT). Members of the Icon Water Board are accountable to the Voting Shareholders for the overall strategic direction, management and corporate governance of Icon Water.

The ACT Government is looking to appoint up to three non‑executive Board members to the Icon Water Board, potentially including the Chair or Deputy Chair.
Candidate Requirements
Effective non‑executive director experience with knowledge of the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities of a director under Corporations law.
Financial acumen to support sound decision making and an understanding of the processes required for effective commercial operations and transactions.
Understanding of the structure, operation, customer‑focused nature and challenges of the Australian water and energy industries (desirable).
Substantial qualifications, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following:
Government relations management – interaction with government, understanding of government process management and involvement in public policy decisions.
Financial / commercial business management – assessing financial data and information and thorough understanding of the processes and controls required for effective commercial operations and transactions.
Engineering and major projects – engineering design, major project procurement and delivery in the water or energy sector or similar industry.
Asset management, operations and maintenance – translating asset management strategic direction including oversight of day‑to‑day utility operations, maintenance and risk management.
Digital/ICT/business transformation skills – ICT strategies and governance, leveraging digital solutions including AI and emerging technologies to support innovation and business transformation and managing cyber security risks.
Successful candidates will also be nominated for appointment to Icon Water’s two subsidiary boards and may also sit on additional committees of the Icon Water Board.
Non‑executive Directors currently receive remuneration of $45,380 per annum (plus superannuation).
