Managing Director (Life), Actuarial Services

The Actuarial Services practice is just one of many consulting services groups that form part of RSM’s consulting line of business. A career within Actuarial Services will provide you with the opportunity to contribute insurance, risk advisory, and consulting services to clients in variety of industries including insurance, financial services, not‑for‑profit, government, and many more. You will have the opportunity to provide advice covering traditional actuarial services, risk and financial modeling software, enterprise risk management, insurance management, capital and financial modeling, process risk and controls, data analytics, and insurance transformation projects. Simply put, you will consistently strive to provide economic and financial value optimisation for our clients and their customers using risk management and insurance strategies and techniques.
Professional Skills and Responsibilities
Lead client relationship management and lead the execution of core actuarial services, including but not limited to : Data collection, reconciliation, and analytics, actuarial pricing and reserving analyses, financial condition testing and economic capital modeling, actuarial reports, presentations, and dashboards, actuarial model development, governance and controls
Lead client strategy and lead the development of new business, including but not limited to : Developing forecasts and business cases, preparing and reviewing client letters, proposals, and presentations, maintaining and analyzing client databases, performing market research and preparing industry presentations
Analyze complex ideas and incorporate broader stakeholder views to develop meaningful solutions and recommendations.
Pursue opportunities to develop existing and new skills outside of your comfort zone.
Focus on building trusted relationships with our clients and your colleagues.
Develop a perspective on key industry trends, and how they impact the firm and our clients.
Oversee engagement economics and manage appropriate resources for efficient engagement models
Anticipate and address client concerns and escape issues as they arise; identify performance improvement opportunities
Understand RSM's service lines and work as a team in providing an integrated service delivery
Develop others within the Actuarial practice through mentoring, training and advising on career development or participating in other Firm initiatives
Understand RSM's lines of businesses, availability of services and where applicable, discuss with client management of opportunities to make valuable introductions to others in the firm
Work with the National Actuarial Leader on “go to market” strategy, participating in proposals, pitch meetings, and developing marketing collateral
Develop a strategy to utilize relationships external to the firm with different types of Centers of Influence to effectuate business growth
Subscribe to and actively read industry publications and share relevant information with clients as considered applicable
Ensure professional development through ongoing education
Requirements
University degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar
At least 20 years of relevant work experience
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and MAAA
Experience in Life insurance pricing, reserving, data analytics, risk management, financial reporting, capital modeling and / or stress testing
Experience as an Appointed Actuary or Peer‑Reviewer in Canada
Experience as an Appointed Actuary in US considered an asset
Experience managing and coaching actuarial staff from a career development perspective
Experience leading actuarial team and / departments including recruiting, staff management, and stakeholder management
Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi‑task and attain deadlines in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment

Previous work experience leading teams using actuarial software an asset (Moody’s AXIS, Prophet, ALFA)
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word / Excel / PowerPoint)
Previous work experience with SQL, Visual Basic, R, Python, or Tableau considered an asset
Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
Excellent communication skills in French considered an asset

Compensation Range : $143,345 - $243,735
Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
