Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry – Brisbane QLD
As a Director in the Cargo Operations Pathway, you will be responsible for leading teams in delivering government regulatory services within a geographical footprint and providing senior leadership and strategic direction within a national business setting. The role will contribute to planning, shaping and implementation of innovative and contemporary business reforms to underpin responsive regulatory activities to clients across a range of import industry sectors. The duties of the roles will include, but are not limited to:
exercising responsive, progressive and contemporary leadership in an evolving risk‑based regulatory environment
working collaboratively across a national network, and with policy and risk owners, to deliver regulatory activities to industry sectors
leading, developing and supporting a geographically dispersed workforce, some of whom may operate on a shift roster basis
modelling appropriate behaviours and embedding accountability in the management of workforce capacity, integrity, finances and other resources
effectively representing the department in interactions with government agencies, industry groups and clients, and maintaining effective communication with these stakeholders
contributing to strategic planning priorities and implementing associated governance to monitor performance

that this recruitment process will
initially be used to fill one ongoing vacancy as Director ‑ Cargo Assessments and that this vacancy is only available in Sydney . The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill
future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature
where the duties are of a similar nature.
These future vacancies may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
Experience leading nationally dispersed operational teams and building and maintaining productive working relationships across teams.
Proven experience in a regulatory environment, collaborating with government bodies and engaging with external stakeholders.
Strong knowledge of regulatory decision‑making frameworks and the application of legislation.
A strong understanding of working within the APS and relevant legislative frameworks.
The ability to understand and interpret reports/data.
Eligibility and other requirements
hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence
meet the physical requirements of the role(s) involve a combination of outdoor and office‑based work
note that they may be required to perform occasional out‑of‑hours and weekend work
wear an official uniform supplied by the department, including during field operations (as applicable), in accordance with the department’s uniform policy
wear appropriate protective personal equipment clothing and comply with departmental Work Health & Safety policies and procedures
satisfactorily complete the department’s Biosecurity Foundation Program and meet minimum requirements to be appointed a Biosecurity Officer under the Biosecurity Act 2015.
