Overview Icon Water

is an iconic Canberra business with a history of providing essential services to Canberra for over 100 years. Icon Water’s primary business is the delivery of water, sewerage and associated services. It owns and operates the ACT's network of dams, treatment plants, mains and other related infrastructure. Icon Water is also a 50% partner in the ActewAGL energy business which operates in the ACT and surrounding regions through retail and distribution partnerships.

Members of the Icon Water Board are accountable to the Voting Shareholders for the overall strategic direction, management and corporate governance of Icon Water.

Board Appointment The ACT Government is looking to appoint up to three non‑executive Board members to the Icon Water Board, potentially including the Chair or Deputy Chair.

Candidates should have

Experience as an effective non‑executive director with knowledge of the legal, ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities of a director under Corporations law (required).

Experience which demonstrates financial acumen to support sound decision making and an understanding of the processes required for effective commercial operations and transactions (required).

Experience which provides an understanding of the structure, operation, customer-focused nature and challenges of the Australian water and energy industries (desirable).

Qualifications Candidates will also require substantial qualifications, knowledge and experience in relation to one or more of:

Government relations management – Interaction with government, understanding of government process management and involvement in public policy decisions.

Financial / commercial business management – Significant experience in assessing financial data and information and a thorough understanding of the processes and controls required for effective commercial operations and transactions.

Engineering and major projects – Engineering design, major project procurement and project delivery in the water or energy sector or similar industry.

Asset management, operations and maintenance – Translation of asset management strategic direction including oversight of day-to-day utility operations, maintenance and risk management.

Digital / ICT / business transformation skills – ICT strategies and governance, leveraging digital solutions including AI and emerging technologies to support innovation and business transformation and managing cybersecurity risks.

Benefits and Appointment Successful candidates will also be nominated for appointment to Icon Water’s two subsidiary boards and may also sit on additional committees of the Icon Water Board.

Non-executive Directors currently receive remuneration of $45,380 per annum (plus superannuation).
