GPTech is seeking a Field Technician/Tradesman to support the Department of State (DOS) Engineering Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts. The objective of these contracts is to obtain the full range of engineering and administrative expertise necessary to assist and support the DOS Office of Construction Management (CM) build and renovate diplomatic facilities abroad. The Field Technician/Tradesman will provide a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance and the management and technical oversight of the project. This position will be located in given task order location.
Responsibilities:
Perform technical inspectionsof civil and structural work, monitorthe contractor's quality control program, and reviewproject drawings and specifications to ensure compliance.
Ensure that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the design documents.
Observe onsite construction and determine if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly.
Perform quality assurance tasks, ensure that the construction contractor’s work is properly inspected and that corrective actions take place, ensure that materials meet contract, review contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolve conflicts.
Review shop drawings and submittals from the contractor and determine if coordination with other disciplines is necessary in addition to monitoring on-going construction work to identify problems or non-compliance with design or contract specifications.
Monitor the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety program.
Observe onsite construction and determine if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly.
Monitor construction progress via the project schedule and submit weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections.
Review design documents (drawings and specifications) that the architect/engineer prepares and perform quality assurance for the construction project in the applicant’s technical area of expertise.
Perform technical inspections of the civil/structural elements of the project.
Prepare construction reports detailing construction progress and identify any problem with the construction process related to the incumbent’s area of expertise. After problems are discovered, evaluate contractor’s proposed remedy. Formulate solutions for the Project Director/Construction Manager.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the Project Director and/or Contracting Officer Representative.
Qualifications:
A high school diplomaand minimum of 10 years’ relevant construction experience
Demonstrated experience in construction management
Experience reading design/construction drawings and ability to understand design narratives and calculations
Demonstrated ability to review shop drawings and submittals from the contractor and determine if coordination with other disciplines is necessary in addition to monitoring on-going construction work to identify problems or non-compliance with design or contract specifications
Working knowledge of acceptable products and procedures for onsite construction according to U.S. standards
Knowledge of international codes
Experience working with multilateral or bilateral donors, such as U.S. Agency for International Development, World Bank, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency
Experience in assessing and responding to requests for information
Possess excellent writing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Knowledge of construction safety regulations, e.g., EM 385-1-1, OSHA
Ability to obtain and retain a Secret security clearance
Willingness to travel worldwide
Overseas experience preferred
Ability to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination or obtain an approved reasonable accommodation for exemption upon employment or December 8, 2021, whichever is later, in accordance with GPTech policy
