The team Toronto Metropolitan University’s Facilities Management and Development (FMD) department involves care of the physical environment of the campus and strategic planning for existing and future spaces, including the impacts of those spaces. FMD is responsible for functions including Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Services, Maintenance and Operations, Planning and Development, Project Management Office, Real Estate, and Sustainability.

The Manager of Capital Project Management provides specialized knowledge in facilities design and construction project management. They manage staff and specific portfolios i.e. Deferred maintenance. The Manager develops end‑to‑end project plans and ensures execution and delivery of the assigned multiple facilities‑related projects in accordance with the University’s Campus Master Plan and facilities maintenance and development objectives.

The Manager advises and provides project management support to the Director in an efficient and effective management of the project management office. They act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of client groups, including academic faculties and operational units, and work with the client representatives to develop the appropriate project scope, budget and schedule in accordance with their needs, through a team of assigned Project Managers and Project Coordinators.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field within Architecture, Engineering, Building Science, Environmental Science, or Project Management.

A minimum of six (6) years’ demonstrated project management experience leading facilities and capital projects.

Experience in a supervisory capacity in a unionized environment, focused on capital project design development and implementation within a large organization or higher education institution in an unionized environment.

Demonstrated experience with budget planning and management, and managing staff and service providers.

Experience in developing project cost estimates and schedules, monitoring performance, and implementing corrective actions.

Experience in developing and delivering presentations to diverse audiences.

A license as an architect (OAA) or professional engineer (PEO) is considered an asset.

Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) considered an asset.

Training and certification in LEAN construction is considered an asset.

Advanced level domain knowledge of a broad range of facilities‑related capital project topics including but not limited to building science, building systems, architecture and aesthetics, project delivery methods and project management techniques.

Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
