Senior Java Software Engineer (Freelance)

to join one of their core engineering teams on a

long-term contract . This role suits an experienced freelancer who is comfortable working autonomously, contributing to architectural decisions, and delivering high-quality backend solutions. The position is

fully remote , with optional hybrid working in Rome for those who prefer occasional on-site collaboration.

Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain

high-performance Java applications Build and enhance

backend services, APIs, and microservices Contribute to

technical and architectural decisions Produce clean, well-structured, and testable code Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and product stakeholders Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices Debug, optimise, and improve existing systems

Required Skills & Experience 5+ years’ commercial experience

in Java development Strong hands-on experience with

Java (8+), Spring, Spring Boot Solid knowledge of

RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems Experience working with

SQL and relational databases Familiarity with

Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows Comfortable working in

remote, agile teams Demonstrable experience working as a freelancer / contractor

(essential) Must be

based in Italy

and able to invoice as a freelancer

Nice to Have Cloud experience ( AWS, Azure, or GCP ) Docker and Kubernetes Event-driven or messaging-based architectures Experience working with

international clients Agile / Scrum environment exposure

Language Requirements English:

Professional working proficiency (written and spoken) Italian:

Advantageous but not required
