NX Chemical Group, a subsidiary of the Maire Group, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Proprietary Equipment Buyer to join our team. You will be part of the NX Engineering District in Catania, working on cutting‑edge technologies to enable the energy transition. Your work will support the procurement and sourcing of proprietary and critical equipment across the company.
Main Task and Responsibilities
Ensure suppliers are properly qualified in group systems; coordinate field visits with the Inspection and Qualification department when needed.
Prepare bidder lists.
Issue Requests for Quotation (RFx) for itemized proprietary and critical equipment, leveraging e‑Procurement systems.
Receive offers and ensure they are properly tracked and archived in group systems.
Work with technical departments to evaluate offers and issue commercial evaluations to the PEQ manager for strategy and decision‑making.
Cooperate with Project Teams to highlight reasons for extra budgets and propose mitigation actions; provide cost input for equipment cost models.
Manage operational relationships with suppliers.
Conduct negotiations when appropriate, in alignment with the PEQ manager.
Assist the PEQ manager in customizing back‑to‑back contracts for specific products/projects/suppliers.
Issue purchase orders in SAP once project numbers are available.
Issue purchase orders autonomously if detailed agreements and price lists exist.
Gather supplier data such as revenues, group intakes, delivery and quality KPIs.
Assist the PEQ manager in liaising with NextChem functions (business development, engineering, legal, project control).
Assist the PEQ manager in drafting award recommendations and in the handover of contracts to the post‑order function.
Report on buying activities as applicable.
Secure compliance with internal procedures and protocols.
Support the Project Procurement Manager/Coordinator in handling commercial issues with vendors (e.g., claims, change orders, liquidated damages).
Required Skills
4–5 years of purchasing experience.
Experience operating in an international, challenging environment.
End‑to‑end tender management experience (RFx process); e‑procurement system knowledge is a plus.
Design experience in engineering departments is a plus.
Experience preparing and executing negotiations on costs and contract terms & conditions.
SAP knowledge for supplies management.
Contract preparation experience.
Ability to interface and manage internal stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Problem‑solving skills and ability to resolve conflicting situations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Team player with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and SAP.
Availability to travel for short periods in Italy and abroad.
Education
University degree in Business & Economics or Engineering (plus).
