Data Center Chief Engineer, ATL DCEO

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a detail‑oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team. This committed group maintains the critical physical infrastructure that supports AWS, ensuring 100% availability of MEP systems while providing first‑class customer service to internal teams. The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. The CE serves as the primary escalation point, performs root‑cause analysis, provides training to Engineering Operations Technicians, and leads projects to improve facility performance. Key Responsibilities

Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities‑related issues and oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, chillers, cooling towers, and more. Perform root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within service level agreements. Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and coordinate with the Facility Manager to set team culture. Create and deploy new standard practices for technicians, chief engineers, and vendor support teams. Assist in the build‑out of new facilities and support projects to increase current facility efficiency. Respond to out‑of‑hours emergency calls and conduct routine maintenance as required. Communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences. Coordinate with IT managers and other business leaders to manage capacity, optimize plant safety, reliability, and efficiency. Ensure safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff. Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on facility operations and maintenance. Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other administrative tools for day‑to‑day tasks.

Physical Requirements

Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 lbs independently; participate in group lifts for 40 lbs+. Work on ladders, climb stairs, twist, bend, and perform construction tasks in the required environment. Wear provided ear protection where necessary.

Basic Qualifications

3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience. 3+ years of data‑center or mission‑critical facilities experience. Technical training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical).

Preferred Qualifications

4+ years of data‑center engineering experience. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. Experience in team leadership.
