Webgis developer

Title: Web GIS Full Stack Developer (Contract/Freelance) Employment type: Contract / Freelance Work style: Hybrid – on-site approximately once per week (or one day twice per month - dependent on location), Main Office based in Ispra Overview We are looking for an experienced Web GIS Full Stack Developer to support the design, development and maintenance of web-based GIS applications. The role involves working across the full stack with a focus on Drupal, cloud storage, and integrating large language models via the Open AI API. Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain Web GIS applications and services. Implement and customise Drupal-based solutions for web mapping and related content. Integrate and manage data storage using S3 buckets. Develop and integrate LLM-based features using the Open AI API. Build, consume and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services. Ensure application performance, scalability and security across the stack. Troubleshoot and resolve issues across front-end, back-end and infrastructure components. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate functional requirements into technical solutions. Produce clear technical documentation and handover materials.

Required Experience & Skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, GIS or a related field. Minimum 10 years of professional software development experience. Strong experience with Web GIS or web-based mapping applications. Solid hands-on experience with Drupal (configuration, custom modules, theming). Experience managing and integrating S3 bucket storage (e.g. for assets, data, backups). Proven experience integrating LLMs and/or AI features using the Open AI API or similar. Full stack development experience, including front-end and back-end technologies. Strong knowledge of REST APIs and JSON-based integrations. Experience working with cloud-based environments.
