Job Overview
The Yacht New Build Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the complete lifecycle of new yacht construction projects, from initial contract and design coordination through to delivery and post-delivery support. This role ensures that yachts are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while coordinating shipyard teams, designers, suppliers, and the owner's representatives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage the full lifecycle of yacht new build projects from concept/design phase to final delivery.
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets.
Monitor progress against milestones and implement corrective actions where required.
Ensure compliance with contractual specifications and class/regulatory requirements.
Technical Coordination
Coordinate between naval architects, designers, engineering teams, and shipyard departments.
Review technical drawings, specifications, and change requests.
Ensure design integration across all disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical, and interior).
Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary point of contact for yacht owners, owner's representatives, and key stakeholders.
Facilitate regular progress meetings and provide project updates.
Manage expectations and resolve issues or disputes during the build process.
Supplier & Contractor Management
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
Monitor procurement schedules and delivery timelines.
Ensure supplier performance meets project standards and contractual obligations.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure construction adheres to class society rules (e.g., Lloyd's Register, ABS, DNV) and flag state regulations.
Oversee quality control inspections and sea trials.
Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are maintained throughout the project.
Budget & Cost Control
Track project budgets and approve expenditures.
Manage change orders and cost variations.
Provide financial reporting and forecasting to senior management.
Testing & Delivery
Coordinate commissioning, testing, and sea trials.
Manage defect lists and ensure completion before delivery.
Oversee final handover documentation and owner training.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Project Management, or related field.
5–10+ years of experience in yacht construction, shipbuilding, or marine project management.
Proven experience managing complex yacht new build or refit projects.
Strong understanding of yacht systems, construction processes, and classification requirements.
Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and organisational skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Strong technical understanding of yacht construction and marine engineering.
Ability to manage multiple contractors and disciplines simultaneously.
Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
Proficiency in project management software and MS Office tools.
Working Conditions
On-site presence at shipyards Monday to Friday
The legal right to live and work in the EU is required
Salary band is €10,000 per month on either an exclusive freelance agreement or on the company payroll
Expenses, accommodation and transport also provided
