Role Overview

Immagina Biotech is looking for a talented Informatician to help build the data-driven tools and infrastructure that power our work. In this role, you will design and develop software solutions, automated workflows, databases, and user-facing applications—working across the full stack from data pipelines to cloud deployment.

You will collaborate closely with developers, data scientists, and domain experts to turn complex requirements into robust, scalable, and maintainable systems. If you thrive at the intersection of software engineering and data, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

•

Build and maintain software tools and data processing pipelines to support large-scale analytical workflows

•

Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in Python, R, and Bash

•

Develop and manage automated workflows, including scheduling, orchestration, and monitoring

•

Design, implement, and query SQL databases for structured data storage and analysis

•

Contribute to the development of graphical user interfaces for data exploration, internal tools, and workflow management

•

Deploy and operate applications on cloud infrastructure, with a focus on Microsoft Azure

•

Build dashboards, reports, and monitoring tools to deliver data insights and operational visibility

•

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and research requirements into technical solutions

Required Technical Skills

•

1–2 years of experience in an industry or applied software/data environment

•

Strong programming skills in Python

•

Good working knowledge of R and Bash

•

Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix environments

•

Solid understanding of software development best practices (version control, testing, documentation)

•

Experience working with SQL databases

•

Ability to work with large datasets and complex data workflows

Preferred Skills

•

Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Snakemake, Airflow, or Nextflow

•

Knowledge of cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure (compute, storage, automation, pipelines)

•

Familiarity with Power Automate for process automation and system integration

•

Experience with Power BI or other data visualisation and reporting tools

•

Experience developing web-based or desktop GUIs (e.g., Python frameworks, web dashboards, internal tools)

•

Foundational knowledge of Machine Learning and AI:

–

Data preprocessing and feature engineering

–

ML libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow

–

Applying ML models to real-world datasets

•

Experience with CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), or infrastructure-as-code

Domain-Specific Nice-to-Haves

•

Exposure to scientific or biological data analysis

•

Familiarity with NGS or omics data (RNA-Seq, Ribo-Seq, Nanopore)

•

Ability to collaborate with domain experts such as biologists, researchers, and analysts

Soft Skills

•

Strong ability to work in team-based, multidisciplinary environments

•

Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

•

Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities

•

English proficiency at B2 level or above
