As a
Commissioning Manager
at Hitachi Energy Grid Integration GPQSS, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the successful planning, execution and completion of commissioning activities for a portfolio of large and complex industrial electrical projects, ensuring systems and equipment operate safely, efficiently and according to specifications. You will lead a small team with a portfolio of projects having the business acumen. Offshore, onshore Transmissions & Distribution experience will be a big plus.
Job Responsibilities
Develop, implement and manage comprehensive commissioning plans, schedules and procedures for various projects, including detailed test scripts and protocols.
Lead and supervise commissioning teams (internal or external contracted resources), providing technical guidance, assigning tasks and ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
Coordinate with project managers, engineering teams, construction personnel, vendors and clients to ensure seamless integration of systems and smooth transitions from construction to operation.
Lead the team in the execution of strategy, tendering, pre‑commissioning, functional testing, performance testing and integrated system testing activities.
Identify and troubleshoot technical issues and deficiencies during commissioning, working collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to implement effective solutions.
Ensure all commissioning activities comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, environmental policies and Hitachi’s internal procedures.
Conduct thorough reviews of design documents, vendor data and construction progress to identify potential commissioning challenges and proactively mitigate risks.
Facilitate client acceptance testing and provide necessary training to operational personnel on newly commissioned systems.
Prepare and present regular progress reports to stakeholders, highlighting achievements, challenges and upcoming activities.
Background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or a relevant discipline).
Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in commissioning roles within complex industrial environments (e.g. power generation, HV & MV systems, electrical infrastructure, manufacturing, rail, energy solutions). Experience in HV is a benefit.
Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary commissioning teams and large‑scale projects.
Understanding of various industrial systems, control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA) and instrumentation.
Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and P&IDs.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting technical issues.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Ability to travel to project sites as required.
