The Role
The Validation Engineer, Powertrain and Electrical Systems will be responsible for validating Zenoโs vehicle powertrain and EE systems. The engineer will develop and test plans, analyze results and ensure functional requirements are met and compliance with homologation and safety standards. The role will also contribute towards the successful homologation of the vehicle projects.
What Youโll Do
- Lead vehicle performance validation on tracks, providing valuable feedback to the design & development team
- Instrumentation of the test vehicle
- Prepare DVP for vehicle dynamic & vehicle functional (electrical & software) testing
- Plan & source indoor & outdoor durability as well as performance testing facilities
- Coordinate & execute test activities with test agencies as applicable
- Support internal engineering teams on test data, reports, DFMEA/DVP etc.
- Conduct vehicle testing under various ambient conditions for cold and thermal validation
- Subjective & Objective dynamic evaluation of vehicle ride performance
- Plan & propose test rig fabrication solutions, outsource & execute relevant test rig fabrication and further maintenance & operation of the same
- Manage the complete vehicle validation and testing activities
- Test vehicles build preparation, vehicle assembly & disassembly, prototyping on need basis
- Prepare test roadmaps, timelines, detailed test plan and status reports for component level, system level and vehicle level testing activities
- Support the design team in making concept decisions based on testing.
- Help in forming DOEs and a structured approach towards testing, prioritize tests based on DFMEA/DVP, planning for execution of multiple tests in shorter timelines.
- Understanding of various test standards (ISO, SAE, AIS etc.)
- Travel to test agencies and vendors for interaction/test execution etc.
- Manage a team of test engineers/technicians
- Support in establishing in house test lab/test facility
Skills and Qualifications
1. Proficient in advanced 2w driving skills
2. Knowledge of homologation requirements & corresponding standards
3. Knowledge of test standards and test execution methods & procedures
4. Enthusiastic for 2w ride dynamics & vehicle behavior understanding
5. Extensive experience of vehicle dynamics, durability, reliability, fatigue tastings
6. Experience of vehicle level mechanical & EV performance testing, range testing etc
7. Knowledge of reliability principals and warranty evaluations
8. Working knowledge of EV testing, Battery and Charger test procedures and testing skills. Understanding of Battery/BMS and charger testing
9. Experience in electrical functionality/performance, integration, safety and homologation testing of EV Powertrain, Motor, battery & chargers
10. Experience with Instrumentation/data acquisition
11. Working Knowledge & experience of testing tools like VBox, strain gauging, accelerometers as well as chassis dyno & motor dyno
12. Experience of component level testing of mechanical components like handlebar, tyre, suspension, brakes, transmission, frame etc
13. Experience of component level testing of electrical components like headlights, taillights, winkers, switches, harnesses etc
14. Field Failure Analysis and Identifying performance bottlenecks and taking adequate measures to rectify faults.
15. Experience with Testing agencies for EMI/EMC Tests at vehicle level
16. Familiar with power electronics topology and mechanical, electrical, thermal and EMI EMC analysis at vehicle level
17. Experience in Root Cause Analysis methods and provide solutions to support design/process improvements
18. Be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% as necessary.
Great to have:
1. Understanding of software systems/software interface testing is desirable
2. Familiar with electric vehicle power electronics architecture.
