Job Purpose
The Head of Department (HOD) – Global Perspectives is responsible for leading, developing, and delivering a curriculum that promotes global awareness, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and responsible global citizenship. The role combines academic leadership, curriculum development, staff management, and quality assurance to ensure high standards of teaching and learning aligned with international frameworks and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Academic & Curriculum Leadership
Lead the planning, implementation, and review of the Global Perspectives curriculum.
Ensure alignment with international curricula(e.g.,Cambridge Global Perspectives, IB, or equivalent frameworks).
Promote inquiry-based, interdisciplinary, and project-based learning approaches.
Integrate global issues such as sustainability, ethics, cultural diversity, human rights, and global economics into teaching.
Deliver high-quality instruction in Global Perspectives courses (where required).
Support innovative teaching strategies that foster critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication skills.
Ensure effective assessment practices, moderation, and feedback in line with international standards.
Leadership & Staff Management
Lead, mentor, and support departmental teachers.
Conduct lesson observations, performance reviews, and professional development planning.
Organize departmental meetings and promote collaborative planning.
Support recruitment and induction of new staff within the department.
Student Development & Wellbeing
Encourage student voice, global engagement, and participation in debates, projects, and international initiatives.
Support student research, presentations, and community- or global-action projects.
Monitor student progress and address academic or pastoral concerns where relevant.
Global Engagement & Representation
Promote partnerships with international organizations, schools, and community groups.
Represent the department in academic committees, conferences, and school events.
Support global citizenship initiatives, exchanges, and interdisciplinary projects across departments.
Qualifications & Experience
Master’s degree in Education, Global Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field with(Teaching qualification recognized internationally)
Minimum 5-7 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international or globally focused curriculum.
Prior leadership or coordination experience is desirable.
