Founding Applied AI / Engineering Systems Engineer
Location: India (Remote)
Company: US-based engineering software startup
About the role
We are an early-stage US startup building software that automates complex engineering decisions for industrial systems. Our advisors include senior leaders from large global engineering and construction firms.
This is a founding engineer role with direct exposure to product architecture and core systems. We are intentionally selective.
What youโll do
- Build backend systems for logic-driven decision making
- Translate real-world constraints into reliable, testable code
- Implement ranking, validation, and optimization workflows
- Use AI tools where appropriate to assist structured reasoning
- Own features end-to-end in a fast-moving startup environment
What weโre looking for
- 1โ3 years of experience in software, systems, or applied AI engineering
- Strong foundations in computer science and problem solving
- Excellent Python skills and comfort building production systems
- Ability to reason about constraints, tradeoffs, and edge cases
- Independent execution and clear written communication
Background we value
- Education from a top-tier engineering institution (IITs or equivalent)

- Evidence of exceptional ability through:
- Competitive programming
- Early-stage startup work
- Meaningful personal or open-source projects
This role is not
- Consulting or services work
- Pure research or academic ML
- Compatible with multiple concurrent jobs
Full-time focus is required.
Compensation
- Base salary: $35,000โ$40,000 USD
- Equity-linked upside (phantom equity)
- Paid technical trial prior to full-time offer
