invites applications for multiple research and field-based positions.
JIHS is an interdisciplinary, data-driven research institute dedicated to addressing Haryana’s socio-economic, environmental, governance, and urban development challenges. The Institute aims to generate rigorous, policy-oriented research that strengthens evidence-based decision-making and promotes inclusive, sustainable development across the state. As a non- partisan knowledge hub, JIHS is committed to building a long-term, time-series research base on Haryana’s development trajectories, including urbanisation, labour markets, health, education, governance, and regional growth dynamics.
We invite applications for the following positions:
1.Post-Doctoral Fellow – Economics
Role Overview
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will supportt he Institute’s ongoing projects and is encouraged to take up their own projects on issues of Haryana.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent and collaborative research related to employment, health, education, regional development, and public services issues of Haryana
Engage with government institutions and planning bodies
Produce high-quality academic publications and policy reports
Contribute to building JIHS as a leading research institution
Qualifications
PhD in Economics / Development Studies
Strong grounding in Indian economic and social contexts
Knowledge of Stata or R ( mandatory )
Familiarity with large datasets like PLFS, NSS, IHDS, NFHS, etc.
Expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods
Publication record in recognized journals preferred
Experience engaging with government institutions desirable
Experience with GIS desirable
Duration & Remuneration
Two-year contract (extendable)
Remuneration: ₹1,00,000 per month
2.Senior Research Fellow
Role Overview
The Senior Research Fellow will assist faculty-led research projects on labour markets, health, education, governance, and regional development in Haryana.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced data cleaning and statistical analysis
Drafting reports, policy briefs, and research summaries
Supporting field research design and execution
Reviewing study instruments and methodologies
Engaging with data sets such as PLFS, NSS, IHDS, NFHS, etc.
Qualifications
Master’s in Economics / Development Studies / Public Health/ Public Policy
Minimum two years of post-Masters work experience
Proficiency in Stata or R ( mandatory )
Familiarity with Indian economic and social datasets
Prior field or government engagement experience desirable
Engaging with spatial databases (GIS maps) desirable
Duration & Remuneration
One-year contract (extendable)
Remuneration: ₹75,000 per month
3.Research Fellow
Role Overview
The Research Fellow will support ongoing interdisciplinary research projects and contribute to data management, analysis, and fieldwork execution.
Key Responsibilities
Data cleaning and preliminary analysis
Literature reviews and report drafting
Supporting field research planning and coordination
Assisting faculty in research implementation
Qualifications
Master’s in Economics / Development Studies/ Public Health/ Public Policy
Knowledge of Stata or R ( mandatory )
Familiarity with major Indian data sets preferred
Field or government experience desirable
Knowledge of GIS desirable
Duration & Remuneration
One-year contract (extendable)
Remuneration: ₹60,000 per month
4.Field Manager / Coordinator (HEALING Initiative)
Role Overview
The Field Manager/Coordinator will lead community-based implementation efforts under the HEALING initiative and support grassroots engagement, monitoring, and institutional coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Setting up and operationalising learning centres
Maintaining the Institute’s website
Organising community meetings and enrolling children
Supervising youth volunteer teachers
Generating awareness on public health, sanitation, and solid waste management
Monitoring key indicators and preparing periodic reports
Coordinating annual evaluations
Liaising with local bodies and authorities
Supporting additional tasks as assigned by HEALING faculty
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work / Development Studies / PublicHealth / Education / related field
Experience in community mobilisation and field coordination
Strong organisational and reporting skills
Experience working with local government bodies desirable
Duration & Remuneration
Contractual (details to be discussed during selection)
Remuneration: ₹40,000 per month
