Backend / Data Platform Engineer ( Kafka + CDC + Java )

We are looking for a

Java-strong engineer

who can build and operate

reliable, scalable backend services and streaming data pipelines . This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering and modern data infrastructure— event-driven systems, Kafka, CDC , and

SQL-based transformation workflows . Critical note:

This is

not

a Python/Airflow-centric data engineering role. We are specifically seeking candidates whose primary strength is

Java .

What You’ll Do

Design and build

backend services

and

data pipeline components

primarily in

Java Develop and operate

Kafka-based streaming systems

(topics, producers/consumers, schema evolution, observability) Implement

CDC (Change Data Capture)

patterns for near-real-time ingestion and downstream propagation Build/maintain SQL transformation workflows using

SQLMesh

(versioned models, environments, CI-friendly changes) Ensure correctness and reliability:

idempotency, ordering, retries, backpressure, exactly-once/at-least-once semantics Improve operational excellence: metrics, logging, tracing, alerting, runbooks, incident response support

Must-Have Skills

Strong Java backend engineering

experience (this is a hard requirement) Hands-on experience with

Kafka

in production Experience building

data pipelines

(streaming and/or near-real-time systems) Solid SQL skills and comfort working with

SQLMesh

(or similar SQL transformation/versioning frameworks) Practical experience with

CDC

concepts and tools/patterns (e.g., Debezium, transactional outbox, log-based CDC)

Nice-to-Have

Kafka Streams / Flink / Spark Structured Streaming experience Schema Registry, Avro/Protobuf, data contracts and versioning practices Distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, fault tolerance, scaling) Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)

Who This Role Is Not For

Candidates primarily focused on

Python + Airflow

workflows (common in traditional data engineering roles), with limited depth in

Java backend engineering
