Job Description
Scope of Work
Project Manager
For: Auom Impact and Consulting
1. About Insomanywords
Insomanywords is a small but deeply intentional organisation built on the values of quality, empathy, integrity and thoughtfulness that are non-negotiables even when working under constraints.
We operate within the knowledge economy where deep insight, critical and analytical intuition and quality of craft matter more than optics. We practice slow business, that means choosing fewer projects so we can do them well and embedding pause and reflect moments in weekly, monthly and biyearly frequencies to intentionally carry forward learnings. We measure productivity through depth, coherence and context-informed performance — not proxy indicators such as hours of work done.
Though small in size, our ambition is long-term. We foster a trans-disciplinary working culture. Team members are encouraged to bring depth from their core disciplines while remaining open to learning, unlearning, and strengthening capabilities that support complex problem solving. This is a place for people who care about thinking clearly, working carefully, and contributing meaningfully.
Lastly, we are not an NGO. We are a for-profit social enterprise. We are a thinking-led, socially, ecologically and environmentally conscious business incorporated to enable social and planet-friendly inclusive ecosystems that can sustain into the future.
2. About Auom Impact & Consulting
Auom Impact and Consulting is one of the three mission driven practices under the parent company Insomanywords. Here we integrate applied behavioural science, systems thinking and futures foresight, to design and strengthen solutions to complex socio-ecological-environmental challenges.
Value driven in practice, we work at the intersection of Urban & Rural Livability, Active Ageing-Death & Dying, Integrated Public Health, Just Transition & Fairwork, Water Conservation & Management, Ecology Conservation & Management, Human-Nature Coexistence and Circular Business.
Our work spans research, participatory SBCC design, learning partnerships, impact programme management and systems advisory, across India and Africa, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.
3. The Role: Project Manager
We are looking for a Project Manager who can handle complex, research-driven projects with structure, clarity and ownership. It is for someone who:
- Thinks structurally
- Is critical, analytical and intuitive
- Values intellectual rigour
- Balances empathy with accountability
- Can lead insight to organised execution
You will manage 1–3 complex projects at a time, working closely with the Founder.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is process-driven in their approach to work and is reflexive in project management, instead of being focussed on mere project delivery. You may come from development consulting, design, strategic foresight/management or social impact — but you must demonstrate:
- 8–12 years of meaningful experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- Strong qualitative research exposure (urban/climate/WASH/just transition preferred)
- Ability to synthesise complexity into structured outputs
- Confidence managing clients with professionalism and clarity
- Strong proposal and strategic writing capability
- Entrepreneurial ownership mindset
- If you have experience applying systems thinking, behavioural science, neuroarchitecture or futures foresight, it is an advantage!
If your experience is primarily donor reporting and compliance management, this role will not be aligned.
We are seeking someone who sees project management as stewardship of quality,
not paperwork.
What will you do?
- Manage team outputs, timelines, budgets and stakeholder coordination across research-led projects
- Travel as needed across India and abroad — at least one travel per quarter can be expected.
- Lead research design, workshop facilitation and field work
- Inspire and guide a team of two to three.
- Guide synthesis discussions and ensure quality and rigour in outputs
- Co-develop high-quality reports and presentations
- Build and sustain thoughtful client relationships
- Contribute to proposals and growth of the practice
- Intentionally invest in your own learning and growth
You will report to the Founder and work collaboratively in shaping how projects are executed at a high standard.
You will thrive here if:
- You enjoy working in a small, creative environment
- You enjoy working collaborative with diverse stakeholders
- You are proactive and entrepreneurial in trying new ways of project delivery
- You value quality over speedy delivery
- You are comfortable with complexities in project and in data
- You want to deepen exposure to behavioural science, systems thinking and foresight
- You want to support in nurturing an impactful institution, not just execute tasks
Remuneration: Can be discussed at the time of interview
4. Why Join Us?
- 4-day work weeks twice a month
- Small, intellectually serious team
- Real ownership and influence when working with a small team
- Multi-disciplinary, multi-location exposure
- Opportunity to grow with a formative-stage organisation
We are building something designed to endure. Your work will meaningfully shape its direction.
