Role Overview We are hiring a Database Migration Engineer to lead end-to-end database migrations — with strong emphasis on migration design, strategy, and architecture. You will define optimal approaches (lift-and-shift, refactor, heterogeneous), architect zero-downtime solutions, select tools, and execute complex migrations (on-prem → cloud, cross-cloud, Oracle → PostgreSQL/Snowflake, etc.) while ensuring data integrity, performance, security, compliance, and minimal business disruption. This senior role combines deep technical leadership in migration design with hands-on execution for high-impact transformation programs.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead migration design & architecture: Develop comprehensive strategies, roadmaps, reference architectures, patterns, and decision frameworks for homogeneous/heterogeneous migrations.
·Perform discovery, compatibility analysis, schema mapping, gap identification, and risk assessment to select lift-and-shift vs. refactor vs. re-platform paths.
·Design schema conversions, data transformations, mapping rules, cleansing/enrichment logic, and security/compliance controls (encryption, masking, GDPR/DPDP alignment).
·Architect data movement solutions: batch/CDC pipelines, dual-write, blue-green, phased cutover for zero/near-zero downtime.
·Select and integrate tools; customize replication/ETL frameworks to project scale and requirements.
·Create detailed designs (HLD/LLD), runbooks, validation frameworks, rollback plans, and dry-run simulations.
·Execute migrations: schema conversion, data transfer/sync, validation, reconciliation, cutover, and troubleshooting.
·Collaborate with app teams, DBAs, cloud architects, security, and stakeholders to align designs and execution.
·Build repeatable patterns, accelerators, and best practices; mentor team members.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
·4–6+ years in database engineering/migrations, with proven leadership in migration design/architecture for 4+ large-scale projects.
·Expertise in 2+ RDBMS: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DB2 (exposure to Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery a plus).
·Hands-on with cloud migration services: AWS DMS/SCT, Azure DMS, Google DMS, OCI GoldenGate.
·Strong CDC/replication: Debezium, Oracle GoldenGate, Qlik, Striim.
·Schema conversion & ETL: AWS SCT, ora2pg, SSMA, Informatica/Talend/dbt/Spark/Python pipelines.
·Advanced SQL + scripting (Python/Bash/PowerShell) for prototyping, validation, automation.
·Deep knowledge of zero-downtime patterns, data consistency, partitioning, indexing, performance tuning.
Strong Differentiators
·Track record as migration architect on cloud-bound / heterogeneous projects.
·Cloud certs: AWS Database Specialty, Azure Data Engineer, Google Professional Data Engineer.
·Experience with modern platforms: Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery.
·IaC familiarity (Terraform) and mainframe/legacy ERP migrations.
Qualifications
·Bachelor’s/Master’s in Computer Science/IT or equivalent.
·Exceptional problem-solving, stakeholder communication, and risk-mitigation mindset.
