Solution Architect (Contract – Discovery & Technical Planning)

Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect on a short-term contract to lead the technical discovery and planning phase of a large software initiative. The project currently has a broad, non-detailed scope (~50 pages) and requires structured breakdown into architecture, database design, delivery roadmap, and resource planning to assess feasibility for a 10-month execution timeline.

Key Responsibilities Technical Discovery & Scope Analysis Review and analyze existing high-level scope documentation Identify functional and non-functional requirements Surface gaps, ambiguities, assumptions, and constraints Identify technical risks and dependencies early

System & Solution Architecture Design high-level and detailed solution architecture Define system components, services, and integration points Document data flows, APIs, and interaction patterns Recommend architecture patterns and technology stack

Database & Data Design Design database architecture and schemas Define core entities, relationships, and data flows Produce ER diagrams and high-level data models Align data design with scalability and performance needs

Technical Planning & Estimation Decompose scope into technical modules and components Support creation of JIRA Epics, Stories, and Tasks Estimate effort, complexity, and sequencing Identify critical-path items and dependencies

Delivery Feasibility & Resource Planning Assess feasibility of delivering the solution within 10 months Backend Frontend DevOps QA AI/Machine learning Provide high-level capacity and staffing recommendations Document risks and mitigation strategies

Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with Product Manager and Engineering Leads Facilitate technical discussions and planning workshops Clearly communicate technical trade-offs and decisions Support leadership decision-making with structured inputs What the Architect Will Deliver in 1 Month High-level and detailed architecture diagrams Database design (ER diagrams, data models) Defined technical assumptions and constraints Effort estimates supporting a 10-month delivery assessment Identified resource types and approximate staffing needs JIRA-ready technical breakdown (Epics / high-level Stories) Risk, dependency, and feasibility summary

Required Experience & Skills Must Have 8+ years of experience in solution architecture or technical design Proven experience leading discovery or pre-delivery phases Strong background in: System architecture Database design Integration and API design Experience working with Agile / Scrum teams Ability to work with incomplete or evolving requirements Strong documentation and communication skills

Nice to Have Consulting or contract architecture experience Cloud platform experience (AWS / Azure / GCP) Experience with enterprise or large-scale systems Familiarity with JIRA and Agile planning tools Success Criteria Leadership has a clear, realistic view of what it takes to deliver in 10 months Architecture and data design are execution-ready Scope is broken down into actionable, estimable units Risks and dependencies are identified early and documented
