Overview
We are seeking a part-time Litigation Manager to manage a portfolio of 15–20 litigation and dispute matters across the United States, United Kingdom, and India. Matters are generally modest in dollars but meaningful in business significance. This role operates as a mini in-house litigation counsel, accountable for driving progress, managing outside counsel, and delivering disciplined reporting.
The role may also support trust structuring and estate planning initiatives through coordination, diligence, and external advisor management.
Reporting & time commitment
Reporting line:
CFO (primary); regular check-ins with the Chairman
Time commitment:
10–20 hours/week, flexible
Location:
Remote in US or India; must be available for regular Pacific time morning check-ins
Responsibilities
Advance matters:
maintain matter plans, deadlines, calendars, and document sets; drive consistent forward progress.
Manage counsel:
define scope, coordinate strategy, monitor performance, and review work product; source/transition counsel as needed.
Implement tracking:
establish and maintain a matter tracker with standardized fields (status, next steps, key dates, exposure, spend, probability, and documents).
Control spend:
partner with the CFO/finance team to manage budgets, review invoices, and enforce outside counsel guidelines.
Deliver reporting:
provide a weekly CFO update and a periodic Chairman recognized update; escalate risks, deadlines, and decisions required.
Support planning:
coordinate discrete trust structuring and estate planning workstreams with external counsel/advisors.
Decision authority
Exercise ministerial authority
to advance matters (routine communications, scheduling, procedural coordination).
Approve routine spend
up to
$5,000 ; escalate substantive issues and larger spend for guidance and approval.
Escalate all settlements
for
CFO and Chairman approval , regardless of size.
Qualifications
JD/LLB
from a top program.
Litigation/disputes experience
at a top-tier firm (US preferred; strong India candidates encouraged), including management of multi-jurisdiction matters (US/UK/India exposure preferred).
Sound judgment and executive communication ; ability to synthesize complex facts into concise updates.
Operational discipline ; ability to build and run tracking and reporting systems.
