Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Principal Officer – Compliance to lead HeraldEx.com’s Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CFT), fraud prevention, and enterprise risk management programs in India. The Principal Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) and reporting obligations to the Financial Intelligence Unit – India (FIU-IND), while strengthening the organization’s overall compliance framework for digital asset operations.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory & AML Oversight
Act as the designated Principal Officer under PMLA and applicable FIU-IND guidelines.
Ensure timely filing of STRs, CTRs, and other regulatory reports with FIU-IND.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulators, auditors, and law enforcement agencies in India.
Monitor regulatory developments related to crypto, digital assets, AML/CFT, and ensure proactive compliance updates.
Lead responses to regulatory queries, inspections, and audits.
Compliance Framework & Risk Management
Develop, implement, and enhance AML/CFT policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments covering AML, fraud, operational, and reputational risks.
Oversee KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, and sanctions screening processes.
Review alerts, investigate suspicious transactions, and prepare STR filings.
Maintain PMLA records and ensure proper documentation and audit trails.
Fraud Management & Controls
Design and implement fraud detection and prevention mechanisms for crypto transactions.
Investigate compliance breaches, fraud incidents, and suspicious activities; ensure timely remediation.
Strengthen internal control systems to mitigate financial crime and operational risks.
Governance & Reporting
Prepare board-level compliance reports and periodic management updates.
Conduct compliance testing and internal audits; report findings to senior leadership.
Update policies, disclosures, and documentation in line with regulatory and business changes.
Manage complaint handling processes, particularly escalated regulatory complaints.
Stakeholder & Culture Development
Lead conversations with regulators and ensure adherence to licensing and regulatory obligations for digital asset and payment services.
Collaborate with internal teams (product, operations, technology, legal) to embed compliance by design.
Deliver AML and compliance training to employees to foster a strong compliance culture.
Identify and onboard compliance tools, monitoring systems, and external partners as required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification such as ACAMS (CAMS) or equivalent AML certification (preferred).
Minimum 4+ years of experience in Compliance, AML, Fraud Risk Management, or Financial Crime within fintech, crypto, banking, NBFC, or financial services.
Strong knowledge of AML regulations, fraud management frameworks, and risk management principles in India.
Experience in handling FIU-IND reporting and regulatory audits.
