About the role:
Working as part of the Redfaire Technical Delivery team, this role will provide primary database (Oracle and MS SQL Server) and infrastructure support, ensuring customer systems (hosted in cloud and [BW1] on-premise) are protected and healthy.
In addition to providing on-going database administration and housekeeping, the role also requires competence in virtualisation and cloud technology, including but not limited to provisioning new server infrastructure and allocating compute resources, namely disk, memory and CPU.
The role will also include the execution of production and non-production database table updates and data refreshes and will often require you to work with and support your colleagues in the development of these requests.
The candidate should have excellent verbal & written communication skills in English & proven analytical and problem-solving skills in a complex technical environment. The candidate will also need the ability to work with a mix of remote and office-based resources.
Due to the requirement to support our clients in specific regions, we are seeking appointment of multiple candidates in both the EMEA and LatAm time zone.
Responsibilities:
Database Administration & Operations
Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Oracle Database environments (11g/12c/18c/19c/21c).
Manage single-instance and RAC databases.
Administer CDB/PDB environments.
Perform database provisioning, cloning, and refresh activities.
Maintain Oracle Grid Infrastructure (if applicable).
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
Configure and manage backups using RMAN.
Perform restore and recovery operations, including point-in-time recovery.
Implement and support Oracle Data Guard environments.
Monitor backup success and ensure compliance with RPO/RTO requirements.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
Performance Monitoring & Tuning
Monitor database health and performance (AWR, ADDM, ASH reports).
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Support SQL tuning and indexing strategies.
Manage optimizer statistics and capacity planning.
Security & Compliance
Manage users, roles, and privileges.
Implement database security standards and auditing.
Apply Critical Patch Updates (CPUs).
Support internal and external audit requirements.
Maintenance & Automation
Perform routine maintenance tasks (space management, statistics gathering).
Monitor tablespace growth and storage utilization.
Automate repetitive tasks using shell scripting, PL/SQL, or Python.
Maintain documentation of configurations and procedures.
Incident & Change Management
Troubleshoot production incidents and perform root cause analysis.
Participate in on-call rotation.
Support application releases and database deployments.
Review and execute change requests according to ITIL processes.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
Relevant third-level qualification in IT, Computer Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior technical database administration role.
Strong knowledge of Oracle Database (12c–19c minimum).
Expert-level Linux administration knowledge.
Proven experience working with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Very good knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
Strong analytical and systematic approach to problem resolution.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workloads, and provide technical leadership when required.
Strong customer-service mindset with a focus on delivering high standards.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Expert knowledge of Oracle Database technologies, including:
Oracle Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition
Installation, configuration, and upgrades
RMAN backup and recovery
Oracle Data Guard
Oracle RAC
OCI-specific database services (Autonomous Database, Exadata Cloud Service)
Experience with:
Performance tuning and troubleshooting
Patching and lifecycle management
Disaster recovery planning and testing
Nice to have:
Knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate.
Experience supporting Oracle ERP systems (JD Edwards).
Knowledge of Oracle Observability & Management services in OCI.
Relevant Oracle certifications (e.g., OCP).
