Main Purpose:
The Senior Lead Petrophysicist will lead petrophysical evaluations across exploration, appraisal, and development wells, ensuring high-quality data acquisition and reservoir characterization. The role involves advanced log interpretation, core-log integration, and application of digital/AI techniques to optimize reservoir understanding and investment decisions. This position also requires stakeholder engagement and mentoring of junior professionals to drive technical excellence.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead Petrophysical activities for exploration, appraisal, and development wells.
- Design and oversee logging programs (LWD/Wireline), including tool selection, vendor coordination, and real-time monitoring.
- Conduct formation evaluationโporosity, saturation, lithology, and hydrocarbon volumesโand integrate results into subsurface models and documentation.
- Attend rig site operations while logging and coring activities to provide real-time decision support during drilling.
- Co-ordinate to execute coring programme and associated laboratory studies to ensure high quality deliverables.
- Perform field quality control (QC) of logging operations and ensure data integrity across all acquisition phases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as drilling, geology, reservoir engineering, geophysics, and related teams to deliver petrophysical insights and optimize data acquisition strategies.
- Integrate petrophysical data with core study results (RCA/SCAL), advanced logs, and provide inputs for seismic interpretation, geological modeling and resource estimation.
- Analyse advanced logs (e.g., NMR, Formation Tester, Imaging, Sonic Scanner etc.) and develop workflows for evaluating conventional, unconventional, and tight reservoirs.
- Evaluate petrophysical uncertainties and their impact on volumetric resource estimates and support for high grading the prospects.
- Analyse and interpret cased hole and production logs to evaluate reservoir behaviour, diagnose well performance, and guide optimization strategies.
- Engage proactively with partners, regulators, and third-party stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance across all technical, operational, and strategic dimensions.
- Leverage machine learning and AI techniques to enhance petrophysical interpretation, automate workflows, and improve reservoir characterization.
- Scout emerging technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs in data acquisition and interpretation.
- Evaluate farm-in/farm-out opportunities and deliver petrophysical assessments to support investment decisions.
- Manage well log data systems, QA/QC processes, and reporting standards.
- Mentor and train junior Petrophysicists and lead training initiatives to promote technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Masterโs degree or higher in Geophysics from a recognized university.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in Petrophysics domain within the oil & gas industry.
- Willing and able to travel offshore for rig site operations and field quality control.
- Proven track record in offshore exploration, appraisal, and development projects.
- Experience with major or international oil companies highly desirable.
- Exposure to Production Sharing Contract (PSC) environments and regional regulatory frameworks preferred.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in industry-standard petrophysical software (e.g., Techlog, Geolog, Interactive Petrophysics).
- In-depth knowledge of logging tools, acquisition systems, and core-log-seismic integration workflows.
- Skilled in advanced interpretation techniques, including rock physics, facies classification and saturation modelling.
- Experience with complex reservoir types: Clastics, carbonates, and unconventional plays (e.g., shale, tight gas).
- Hands-on experience in machine learning and data analytics applications in petrophysical evaluation.
