As the General Ma nager – Human Resources, you will provide strategic leadership and governance over payroll operations, statutory compliance, HR operations, and employee data management across the organization. This role requires deep expertise in payroll regulations, risk management, HR systems, and organizational compliance frameworks. You will drive process excellence, ensure statutory adherence, and align payroll and HR operations with overall business objectives.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Strategic Payroll Leadership
- Provide overall leadership and governance for end-to-end payroll operations across locations.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing, including salaries, reimbursements, incentives, benefits, and statutory deductions.
- Establish payroll controls, policies, and SOPs aligned with organizational strategy and audit standards.
- Drive automation and digital transformation initiatives in payroll processing.
2. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance Governance
- Oversee full compliance with central and state statutory requirements including PF, PT, ESIC, Labour Welfare Fund, Bonus, Gratuity, Income Tax, and other applicable regulations.
- Monitor changes in labor laws, tax laws, and regulatory frameworks, ensuring proactive implementation.
- Lead statutory audits, internal audits, and regulatory inspections related to payroll and HR operations.
- Mitigate organizational risk by strengthening compliance monitoring systems.
3. HR Operations & Employee Database Governance
- Ensure integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of employee records and HR databases.
- Oversee employee lifecycle management from onboarding to separation, ensuring seamless system integration and documentation.
- Implement robust HRIS frameworks and digital employee record systems.
- Drive data governance standards and information security protocols.
- Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and Business Heads to align payroll and HR operations with organizational goals.
- Act as a senior escalation point for payroll and compliance-related matters.
- Provide strategic inputs to leadership on workforce cost planning and budgeting.
5. Reporting & Analytics
- Lead payroll analytics and workforce cost analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Present periodic MIS reports to executive leadership covering payroll costs, compliance status, headcount metrics, overtime analysis, and financial forecasting.
- Utilize data insights to improve workforce efficiency and cost optimization.
- Establish strong internal control mechanisms within payroll and HR operations.
- Lead internal and external payroll audits and ensure timely closure of audit observations.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies related to payroll fraud, compliance lapses, and data breaches.
7. HR Systems & Process Excellence
- Oversee HRIS and payroll system architecture, enhancements, and integrations.
- Champion process optimization, automation, and technology-driven improvements.
- Ensure scalability of HR systems to support business growth.
8. Capability Building & Organizational Development
- Build and lead a high-performing HR operations and payroll team.
- Drive training initiatives for HR teams on compliance updates and payroll processes.
- Enhance employee awareness on compensation structures, benefits, and statutory components.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- 15 + years of progressive HR experience with significant exposure to payroll governance and compliance leadership.
- Strong knowledge of Indian labor laws, taxation, and statutory regulations.
- Experience in leading HR operations at an enterprise or multi-location level.
- Demonstrated expertise in HRIS and payroll system implementation.
