Quality Engineering Lead – eCommerce Services About the Role: We’re looking for someone who can spot fragile seams in a complex eCommerce ecosystem long before customers ever experience them. When you hear about a new service rollout—whether it’s a checkout API enhancement, a personalization engine update, a payment integration, or a major platform modernization—you naturally gravitate toward the underlying risks. You think in terms of dependencies, traffic patterns, data flows, and worst case customer scenarios. For you, quality isn’t something that happens at the end; it’s a discipline that shapes how teams design, build, and operate reliable services from day one. As a

Quality Engineering Lead for eCommerce Services

, your influence goes beyond writing tests—you’ll elevate how multiple service teams across our eCommerce ecosystem think about resilience, performance, and customer impact. You’ll help squads build smarter test strategies, strengthen service level automation, and establish the patterns, tooling, and guardrails that keep our distributed architecture dependable. You’ll collaborate with engineers, product leaders, and platform teams to ensure our services ship with confidence and perform flawlessly under real world conditions.

You’ll begin by deeply understanding our service architecture, customer journeys, API integrations, and operational rhythms. From there, you’ll guide quality efforts across teams—shaping automation strategy, improving observability in tests, identifying integration risks, and helping services prepare for peak load. Over time, you’ll influence how we build software at scale, turning quality into a shared responsibility embedded across engineering. This isn’t a “QA signs off at the end” role. Our service teams own quality. Your job is to expand their toolkit, strengthen their instincts, and raise the bar for how we test, how early we test it, and how reliably we deliver. Your mission is simple: protect the customer experience by making our engineering teams exceptional at delivering it.

What Will You Do? Lead With a Quality Mindset: Shape early conversations around architectural assumptions, failure modes, and real world customer scenarios. Encourage teams to understand risk and system behavior before development starts. Elevate How Teams Build and Test Services: Design practical, scalable test strategies for microservices, APIs, and backend workflows. Expand automation coverage where it reduces effort and increases reliability. Promote patterns that make quality scalable across service teams.

Shape and Evolve Our Automation Approach: Guide the architecture and direction of API, contract, consumer driven, and integration test frameworks. Ensure automation remains maintainable, stable, and aligned with modern service practices. Drive shift left testing and early automation adoption within service development workflows.

Guide Teams Through Complexity: Help squads uncover hidden risks across payments, inventory, personalization, order routing, search, and other critical eCommerce services. Provide teams with clear strategies for testing complex integrations and high impact flows. Strengthen resilience testing in distributed systems. Ensure data is synchronized across systems by defining validation strategies for data quality, completeness, and cross system consistency. Build approaches for validating data pipelines, event flows, and the accuracy of data consumed and emitted by services.

Champion Quality in Delivery Pipelines: Improve CI/CD pipelines with meaningful quality gates, quicker feedback loops, and more reliable releases. Strengthen debugging, failure detection, and automated validation for service deployments. Partner Across Disciplines: Collaborate with engineering, product, experience, architecture, SRE, and DevOps teams to ensure services meet real customer expectations. Support teams in writing high quality acceptance criteria and strong test plans.

Lead Through Mentorship and Influence: Mentor engineers on API testing, automation design, performance thinking, and building resilient services. Influence teams through expertise and coaching—not gatekeeping.

Drive Performance, Stability, and Peak Readiness: Prepare services for major releases, promotional events, and seasonal traffic spikes. Help teams forecast risks, validate capacity, and assess service behavior under load.

Continuously Improve How We Work: Identify patterns, gaps, and improvement opportunities across service ecosystems. Convert learnings into reusable frameworks, tools, and best practices. Automate data setup and data updates needed for business scenarios, test environments, and technical testing workflows. Develop repeatable approaches for generating, refreshing, and validating test data to unblock teams and accelerate delivery.

What Do You Need to Bring? Required Qualifications: 7–9 years of experience in Quality Engineering or Service Engineering, with at least 2 years in a lead role Strong hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks (Playwright, Java Rest-Assured, or equivalent) Experience testing data quality, completeness and End to End , cross-system consistency Proficient with API testing (REST and/or GraphQL), contract testing, and integration testing Familiarity contributing to automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or similar) Experience working in Agile, cross-functional teams A strong quality-first mindset grounded in risk identification, test strategy, and customer empathy Excellent communication and collaboration skills Ability to write testing strategy

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in containerized or Kubernetes-based testing environments Familiarity with Microservices architectures Familiarity with Master Data Management tools (such as Stibo) Experience in retail or eCommerce Experience with localization and internationalization Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Why You’ll Love Working Here: Your impact scales across multiple service teams. You’ll solve real customer problems and shape the experience directly. You’ll take on meaningful cross-system complexity. You’ll push forward modern engineering practices like automation and observability. You’ll work with teams that value quality and collaboration. You’ll grow as a technical and organizational leader.
