Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a senior scientific leader to drive
mass spectrometry–based biomarker discovery and validation
for neurodegenerative and CNS disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and rare brain disorders. This role owns the
end-to-end biomarker assay strategy —from early discovery through clinical validation—and plays a critical role in integrating biomarker insights into preclinical and clinical development programs. The Director will operate as both a
hands-on technical expert
and a
scientific leader , mentoring scientists and collaborating closely with cross-functional and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Biomarker Assay Development & Validation
Lead development, optimization, and validation of MS-based biomarker assays for early- and late-phase clinical trials
Design and oversee targeted and discovery MS workflows for biomarker identification, qualification, and validation
Implement robust bioanalytical validation procedures to ensure high-performance, reproducible measurements across preclinical and clinical samples
Scientific Leadership & Program Ownership
Serve as scientific owner for biomarker strategies across neuroscience programs
Partner with project teams to design and execute in vitro experiments supporting therapeutic characterization
Provide technical direction, mentorship, and best-practice guidance to junior scientists
Study Design & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Establish experimental designs and analytical strategies for in-house and outsourced biomarker efforts
Coordinate method development, sample analysis, and data interpretation with:
Internal teams (medical, clinical operations, statistics, regulatory)
External partners (CROs, academic collaborators, specialized laboratories)
Ensure biomarker approaches align with clinical objectives and regulatory expectations
External Engagement & Scientific Communication
Act as technical subject-matter expert in CRO and external partner interactions
Communicate biomarker findings through internal presentations, external publications, and strategic discussions
Contribute to thought leadership in biomarker innovation and translational science
Required Skills & Experience
PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Proteomics, or a related field
5+ years of experience in industry, academia, or postdoctoral research with a strong focus on biomarker discovery and development
Deep technical expertise in:
LC-MS and LC-MS/MS
Targeted and/or discovery proteomics
Proven experience with MS-based assay development, optimization, and clinical validation
Ability to independently design and execute advanced MS-based studies
Preferred Skills
Direct experience with CNS or neurodegenerative disease biomarker programs
CRO oversight or sponsor-side biomarker leadership experience
