Reports to: Engineering Head
Scope: India HQ
Location: Mumbai
Role Purpose:
The Practice Lead – Electrical Engineering is responsible for leading the power systems design discipline for Technavious’ data center projects, ensuring technical excellence, reliability, and compliance with international standards. The role covers concept-to-commissioning ownership of electrical infrastructure, including MV/LV power distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, DG integration, earthing, lighting, and SCADA/BMS interfacing.
As the technical authority for the electrical domain, the Practice Lead ensures all designs align with TIA-942, Uptime Tier, IEEE, IEC, and local utility standards, while driving innovation in energy efficiency, automation, and digital design optimization.
Key Responsibilities
A. Technical Leadership & Design Management
- Lead all electrical system designs across conceptual, detailed, and construction documentation stages for hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data centers.
- Define power architecture strategies (N+1, 2N, distributed redundant, block-redundant topologies).
- Ensure end-to-end integration between utility, DG, UPS, switchgear, and critical IT load distribution.
- Drive short-circuit, load flow, and protection coordination studies using ETAP / SKM Power Tools.
- Review and validate single line diagrams (SLDs), BoQs, and system schematics for design accuracy.
- Ensure resilience, fault tolerance, and safety compliance with local and international standards.
- Oversee interface with mechanical and controls systems for integrated operation and monitoring.
B. Quality Assurance & Governance
- Develop and maintain Electrical Design Standards & QA/QC Checklists for design uniformity.
- Implement Design Quality Reviews (DQRs) at all major design milestones.
- Define peer review and approval processes for drawings, SLDs, and calculations.
- Ensure compliance with TIA-942, Uptime Tier, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, and local DEWA/ADDC/CEIG codes.
- Conduct periodic internal design audits to identify systemic gaps and prevent rework.
- Track QA metrics such as rework %, compliance %, and design turnaround time (TAT).
C. Technical Studies, Validation & Optimization
- Conduct or review all power system studies: Load Flow, Short Circuit, Protection Coordination, Harmonic, Arc Flash.
- Validate power system reliability and selectivity through simulation and redundancy modeling.
- Develop Power Efficiency Improvement Plans (e.g., UPS loading optimization, power factor correction).
- Drive energy optimization and sustainability initiatives — improved PUE, renewable integration, energy monitoring.
- Lead Value Engineering (VE) sessions to reduce CAPEX without compromising reliability.
D. Team Development & Knowledge Management
- Mentor and train design engineers on power system design, protection, and standards.
- Establish training roadmap for software proficiency (ETAP, SKM, Revit Electrical, AutoCAD).
- Build and lead a Center of Excellence (CoE) for electrical engineering and power system studies.
- Foster cross-functional learning with mechanical, controls, and compliance teams.
E. Client & Certification Engagement
- Act as technical point of contact for clients and certification bodies (Uptime, TIA, ISO).
- Support pre-bid technical discussions and proposal development.
- Provide design documentation and validation evidence for TIA-942 Rated-3/4 and Uptime Tier-III/IV certifications.
- Represent Technavious in audits, peer reviews, and certification workshops.
F. Innovation & Digital Transformation
- Collaborate with the Platform & GRC Head to digitize design processes, QA gates, and document automation.
- Implement AI-assisted design validation, auto-BoQ generation, and error-checking tools.
- Lead R&D initiatives in renewable energy integration, energy storage systems (BESS), and smart switching systems.
Deliverables
- Electrical Design Standards & QA/QC Framework (v1.0 and v2.0).
- Verified SLDs, load lists, and protection studies for all projects.
- Power system study reports (ETAP/SKM).
- Value Engineering reports for cost and energy optimization.
- Design performance dashboard — QA, rework %, and schedule adherence.
- Certification readiness documentation (TIA/Uptime).
- Internal training and competency certification for electrical design engineers.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s in electrical engineering.
Experience:
- 12–18 years in electrical design for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or industrial power systems, with expertise in power system design, redundancy planning, and certification readiness.
