Business Anakin (YC S21)

Job Description

Product Manager, Developer Tools (0→1) About Anakin Anakin helps companies in e-commerce, ride-hailing, food delivery, and quick commerce stay competitive with real-time data. We do dynamic pricing, competitor intelligence, and product optimization using technology, AI, and analytics. Today, our core business scrapes a large number of websites and apps to deliver pricing and market data to major clients. Over time, we’ve built strong internal scraping modules that make extraction efficient, reliable, and scalable. Now we’re productizing those modules.

What we’re building We’re turning our internal scraping stack into standalone developer tools: APIs and products that developers can use directly. This is a new customer segment for us. Our existing business sells high-ACV contracts to large companies. This product is built for developers—from a solo builder to a platform team at a big company. We plan to ship a real external release by the end of the year. A team is already working on it.

The role (why it’s different) This is our first true Product Manager hire for Anakin. We’ve had project managers before, but they were mostly client-project managers: one client, one custom project. This is different. This is product. You’ll own a 0→1 developer product end-to-end: product direction and execution, talking to developers (the actual users), getting pilots live, and doing the early go-to-market.

We do have a sales team, but they’re focused on the existing business. This role is for the new product line. There’s also no marketing team right now. We’re hiring, but it will take time. So early on, a lot of things will be DIY: customer outreach, messaging, docs, launch playbooks, and the messy “make it work” stuff. If you want a role where you’ll learn a lot because you actually own the product, this is it.

Role overview We’re evolving to offer our internal web scraping modules as standalone developer tools to external users. That’s why we’re hiring a Product Manager dedicated to this area. You’ll lead the end-to-end development of developer-centric scraping products—from initial conception to customer pilots and scaling. This is a greenfield role that needs deep technical understanding, strong ownership, and tight collaboration with engineering and cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities Lead the ideation, design, and delivery of web scraping APIs and developer tools, ensuring robust, scalable, and compliant data solutions. Work hands-on with engineers worldwide: use the product yourself, propose improvements, and coordinate product launches. Own the roadmap and drive technical problem-solving, including alignment with large language models (LLMs) for web scraping workflow automation. Do customer discovery, demos, pilots, and handle all customer-facing work until the product scales enough to hire dedicated roles for it. Define PRDs and success metrics (API design, developer adoption, SLA compliance), and drive go-to-market work alongside Sales and Customer Experience. Build and enforce frameworks for ethical data sourcing, regulatory compliance, security, and risk management with internal stakeholders and external experts. Instrument and own metrics for coverage, accuracy, freshness, API performance; use SQL and analytics as needed.

What you’ll bring 5–10 years of professional experience, including at least 2 years as a Product Manager or Owner in B2B technology or data-driven products. Coding skills in Python, Go, JavaScript, or Java, plus comfort with Git, APIs, and SQL for prototyping, debugging, and product analysis. Experience building APIs, data pipelines (ETL/ELT), and productizing ML workflows with human-in-the-loop quality processes. Strong understanding of web scraping, anti-bot techniques, catalog matching, entity resolution, or search relevance is a plus. Proven ability to lead new product development from inception to pilot to scale, and communicate clearly with both engineers and business stakeholders. Metrics-driven mindset: coverage, latency, adoption, retention, and quality SLAs. Experience in on-demand commerce (e-commerce, ride-hailing, quick commerce, digital brands) is preferred.

Perks and benefits Competitive compensation including employer and employee PF contributions. Comprehensive health insurance and group term insurance covering self and dependents. A fast-paced environment with real stability and growth opportunities (we’re building and we’re profitable). You’ll be the first Product Manager hire for this new product line, reporting directly to the CEO/founder. Broad scope, high ownership, and room to grow into leadership.

Location & work mode In-office role based in HSR Layout, Monday to Friday. Leave, attendance, and work-from-home policies are available upon request.

FAQs:

Role & responsibilities

What does a typical day or week look like for this Product Manager role? You’ll spend your time talking to developers across the world, using the product yourself, suggesting changes, shipping small fixes on your own where possible, and working with engineers to get bigger changes shipped.

Will this PM own the entire pricing intelligence platform, or are there specific product areas assigned to this role? This role is specifically for building scraping products for developers. You won’t be working on the existing pricing intelligence platform.

Are there any upcoming features or verticals that this PM would lead from day one? Yes. From day one, you’ll be building scraping products and APIs for developers. The main technical challenge will be LLM alignment for web scraping workflows.

Will the PM be involved in customer-facing activities like discovery calls, demos, and pilots? Yes. You’ll handle everything until the product scales enough that we can assign dedicated people to each activity.

Product development

What is the balance between greenfield product development and managing existing product lines? It’s all greenfield. There’s no existing product work in this role; existing products are already managed by other project managers.

What are the top 3 product priorities for the next 6–12 months? Build it. The focus is creating the new scraping product from the ground up.

How does Anakin prioritize between customer requests, technical debt, and strategic initiatives? Strategic initiatives come first, because the priority is building the product. The PM will handle everything until the product scales enough to assign dedicated people.

What are the biggest technical challenges the product is currently facing? Aligning LLMs to our work.

What tools does the team use for product management, documentation, and collaboration? Likely JIRA/Linear for roadmapping, Confluence/Notion for documentation and PRDs, Git/GitHub for code, Slack for communication, SQL for analytics, and Swagger/Postman for API documentation.

Success metrics

What metrics define success for this role in the first 90 days and first year? First 90 days:

The product is already built, so the focus is on getting it into developers’ hands and refining it based on real feedback. Success means setting up daily calls with customers, reaching out proactively to potential users, gathering feedback, and iterating quickly to make the product genuinely useful and usable. By the end of 90 days, at least 100 developers should be using the product regularly. First year:

Achieve full feature parity with all major competitors, ensuring that for every scraping use case, developers choose Anakin as their go-to product. The goal is to have 10,000 developers actively using Anakin exclusively for their scraping needs, with strong adoption metrics (API calls, integrations), high satisfaction scores, and measurable revenue growth.

Compliance & risk

How does Anakin handle data sourcing compliance and ethical considerations around web scraping? You’ll maintain compliance and ethics around data sourcing by respecting robots.txt, following data protection regulations, and building ethically bounded systems—while defining clear frameworks for compliant scraping.

What risk management frameworks or processes are currently in place? This is new product development, so you’ll build risk-management frameworks covering security, compliance, SLA management, and ethical data sourcing—working with the right internal owners and external experts.

Are there legal or security teams that the PM collaborates with for compliance issues? Because this is our first Product Manager hire, you’ll start by working closely with Engineering and Business teams to understand our current practices and compliance needs. We don’t have a dedicated in-house legal or security team today, but we consult external partners when compliance or data security requirements come up. Over time, you’ll define processes, keep product decisions aligned with security/privacy/regulatory standards, and coordinate with external experts to maintain compliance as we scale.

Career growth & development

What does career progression look like for Product Managers at Anakin? Progression is based on impact, ownership, and cross-functional leadership—not just tenure.

Are there opportunities to expand into leadership or specialize in specific product domains? Yes. We encourage PMs t...
