Job Description
Google Workspace & Okta Engineer
Proglite | Full-Time | Night Shift (CST Hours)
About the Role
Proglite is looking for an experienced Google Workspace & Okta Engineer to join our team. This is an engineering role — not a helpdesk or task-execution position. You will take full technical ownership of customer Google Workspace environments and their Okta identity infrastructure, driving architecture decisions, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across both platforms.
The ideal candidate understands how Google Workspace components interconnect at a deep level, how Okta fits within a modern IT and security architecture, and how the two platforms work together to deliver secure, seamless identity and collaboration services for growing organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Google Workspace Engineering
Design, configure, and manage enterprise Google Workspace environments including Gmail, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Chat, and Vault
Architect organizational unit (OU) structures, group policies, and role-based admin permissions aligned to customer security requirements
Engineer email security configurations including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and advanced Gmail routing rules
Manage shared drives, data governance policies, DLP controls, and context-aware access configurations
Implement and maintain device management policies via Google Endpoint Management
Configure and support Google Vault for data retention, holds, and eDiscovery requirements
Automate administrative operations using Google Admin SDK and GAM (Google Apps Manager)
Perform proactive monitoring of system health, security alerts, audit logs, and storage utilization
Lead or support Google Workspace migration projects (e.g., Exchange to Google)
Provide L2/L3 engineering support for complex Google Workspace issues
Okta Identity Engineering
Design and implement Okta-based identity and access management (IAM) solutions for customers
Configure Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations using SAML 2.0, OIDC, and OAuth 2.0
Implement and manage Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) policies and adaptive access controls
Manage the full identity lifecycle (Joiner-Mover-Leaver) through automated provisioning and deprovisioning using SCIM and Okta Workflows
Integrate Okta with Google Workspace, cloud applications, and on-premises systems
Perform access reviews, maintain audit trails, and support compliance requirements
Troubleshoot authentication, federation, and provisioning issues across the Okta environment
Develop and maintain IAM documentation, architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures
Required Skills & Experience
Google Workspace
5+ years of hands-on Google Workspace engineering experience in a customer-facing or managed services environment
Deep expertise across the full Google Workspace suite: Gmail, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Vault, Endpoint Management
Strong knowledge of email authentication standards: SPF, DKIM, DMARC
Experience with Google Admin SDK and GAM for automation and bulk operations
Solid understanding of Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) and directory integration
Experience with DLP policies, context-aware access, and data governance in Google Workspace
Okta
3+ years of hands-on Okta administration and engineering experience
Strong understanding of SAML 2.0, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and SCIM protocols
Experience configuring SSO integrations, MFA policies, and lifecycle automation in Okta
Familiarity with Okta Workflows for automation and integration orchestration
Architecture & Integration
Ability to understand and articulate how Google Workspace and Okta fit within a broader IT and security architecture
Experience integrating identity and collaboration platforms with cloud applications and directory services
Comfort with API integrations and basic scripting (Python or PowerShell) for automation tasks
Preferred Qualifications
Google Workspace Administrator Certification
Okta Certified Administrator or Okta Certified Professional
Experience delivering managed IT services or working in a consulting/MSP environment
Exposure to cloud security principles (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
Experience with Google Workspace migration projects
What We're Looking For
We need someone who thinks like an engineer and operates like an owner. You should be comfortable taking the lead on customer environments, identifying gaps before they become problems, and continuously improving the platforms you manage. If you are looking for a role where you follow a ticket queue without engaging your technical judgment, this is not the right fit.
Soft Skills
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis ability
Clear communication — written and verbal — with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple customer environments simultaneously
Thorough documentation habits and attention to detail
Comfortable working in US PST hours
