About the Role
As a
Senior Network Engineer , you will be part of Atomic North’s IT Project team, supporting enterprise users across North America.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our Projects team. The ideal candidate must have deep, hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure networking solutions as a primary requirement, combined with strong, specific expertise in on-premises Fortinet security and networking infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining hybrid architecture that ensure high availability, security, and performance between our data centers and the cloud.
Technical Skills
Mandatory Requirements (Must-Haves)
Deep
Azure
Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience designing, deploying, and managing complex Azure network architectures within production environments.
Fortinet Ecosystem Expertise: Advanced proficiency in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Fortinet Security Fabric solutions, specifically FortiGate NGFWs in high-availability clusters.
Hybrid Networking: Demonstrated success in configuring hybrid connectivity, specifically integrating Fortinet on-premises infrastructure with Azure via ExpressRoute and Route-Based Site-to-Site VPNs.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
Azure & Cloud Networking Architecture
Expert-level knowledge of Azure networking components including Virtual Networks (VNets), Subnetting, VNet Peering, and Private Endpoints.
Extensive experience designing and implementing hybrid connectivity using Azure ExpressRoute (circuit provisioning, peering, and routing) and VPN Gateways.
Proficiency in managing Azure traffic routing using User Defined Routes (UDRs) and Route Tables to force traffic through security appliances.
Experience implementing Azure Virtual WAN (vWAN) architectures for global transit connectivity.
Azure Security: Deep expertise in securing Azure environments using Network Security Groups (NSGs), Application Security Groups (ASGs), Azure Firewall, and Web Application Firewall (WAF) on Application Gateways.
Network Implementation & Management
Fortinet Security Fabric: extensive hands-on experience configuring, deploying, and managing the Fortinet Security Fabric, with a primary focus on FortiGate physical and virtual appliances acting as edge firewalls, internal segmentation firewalls, and VPN concentrators.
Fortinet SD-WAN: Proven experience designing and deploying Fortinet Secure SD-WAN solutions to optimize application performance and replace or augment traditional WAN links.
Experience managing integrated switching and wireless through FortiGate (Forti Link managing FortiSwitch and FortiAP).
Strong proficiency in dynamic routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF, essential for hybrid cloud integration between FortiGate and Azure.
Managing and maintaining network infrastructure health using Fortinet tools (e.g., Forti Manager, Forti Analyzer) alongside traditional protocols like SNMP and NetFlow.
Network Security (On-Prem)
Strong understanding of zero-trust network security principles in a hybrid environment.
Expert-level proficiency in utilizing FortiGate UTM features, including IPS/IDS, Advanced Malware Protection, Web Filtering, Application Control, and deep SSL inspection.
Experience implementing secure remote access solutions using FortiClient VPN (SSL and IPsec) and Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
Familiarity with best practices and compliance standards, such as ISO 27001, SOC2, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and how Fortinet tools assist in meeting them.
Professional Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex, cross-domain network issues (bridging Fortinet on-prem devices and Azure cloud networking).
Knowledge of network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Python) for efficient management of both Azure resources and Fortinet device configurations.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and infrastructure team members.
Ability to summarize complex technical solutions into clear concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to document internal and external designs clearly using tools such as Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
Must Have/Highly Preferred: Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (AZ-700).
Highly Preferred: Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) certification, preferably NSE 4 (Professional) or NSE 7 (Architect) levels.
Nice to have: Cisco CCNP Enterprise/Security or equivalent experience in multi-vendor environments.
