Job Description

Structural Engineer – Modular Construction Join a Team Engineering the Future of Construction Office Location:

IITM Research Park, Taramani, Chennai

The Role As a

Structural Engineer , you will contribute to the design and analysis of

PEB steel structures, LGSF systems, and RCC

in compliance with relevant

Indian Standard (IS) codes . You will support the development of

industrialized and modular construction solutions

while ensuring designs follow

Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)

principles. You will work closely with

senior engineers, architects, IITM collaborators, and supply chain teams

to develop efficient, scalable structural systems that support

prefabrication, minimum-skill manufacturing, and streamlined on-site erection .

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and Analysis

Design of

PEB steel structures, RCC , and LGSF(Cold formed Steel) design

for modular buildings following IS codes (e.g.,

IS 800, IS 456, IS 875 ). Perform structural analysis using software such as

STAAD Pro, ETABS, and AutoCAD . Support the application of

industrialized construction principles

to optimize designs for fabrication and assembly. Assist in developing

3D structural models using BIM tools . Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to integrate structural design with the overall building system.

Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFMA)

Support implementation of

DFMA principles

to reduce site complexity and improve prefabrication efficiency. Work with procurement teams to help identify

industry-standard materials

suitable for fabrication and modular construction. Assist in optimizing designs for

ease of manufacturing and installation .

Structural Bill of Materials (BOM) & Construction Documentation

Support preparation of

structural quantity estimates

including superstructure steel quantities and foundation requirements. Assist in developing

structural Bills of Materials (BOM)

for steel and RCC components. Prepare

structural drawings, fabrication drawings, and shop drawings

for construction and manufacturing guidance.

Pre-Fabrication Quality Support

Structural Engineering Documentation Assist in preparing structural design documents for review and approval by

IIT Madras or other designated authorities . Support revisions and updates based on review comments. Material Quality Specify steel grades and standards as per applicable

IS codes . Assist in reviewing

mill certificates and material compliance documents . Fabrication Drawings Support development of fabrication drawings showing: Dimensions and tolerances Bolt-hole locations Weld specifications Surface treatments (galvanization, painting)

Erection Support & Site Coordination

Erection Drawings Work with BIM engineers to support preparation of

erection drawings and sequencing plans .

Site Coordination

Assist in

site inspections

during erection to ensure structural drawings are followed. Monitor critical aspects including: Foundation readiness Column alignment Structural connections Bolt tightening procedures

Quality Documentation

Assist in maintaining documentation of

site inspections, weld certifications, and corrective actions .

Construction Methodology Support

Contribute to development of

efficient prefab construction methods . Support efforts toward

standardization of modular construction systems . Assist in documenting best practices and lessons learned for future projects.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with

architects, MEP engineers, procurement teams, and project managers . Participate in design and coordination meetings. Maintain clear communication within the project team to support smooth execution.

Skills and Qualifications Master’s degree in Structural Engineering. Experience in

PEB and RCC structural design

is preferred. Proficiency

with structural design software such as: STAAD Pro,ETABS,Autocad. Understanding of

Indian Standard codes (IS 800, IS 875, IS 456) . Basic knowledge of

DFMA principles and modular construction methods

is an advantage. Familiarity with

BIM workflows

is beneficial. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Good communication and teamwork abilities. Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
