Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Senior Purchasing Manager role based in Chennai. The Senior Purchasing Manager will oversee and manage procurement operations, including sourcing raw materials, selecting reliable suppliers, and negotiating contracts. Responsibilities include developing procurement strategies, monitoring inventory levels, maintaining vendor relationships, conducting cost analysis, and ensuring that purchases comply with company policies and budgets. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to efficiently meet operational and production needs.

1. Role Summary
ECI Systems is entering a high-growth phase with:
₹100+ Crores deliverable order pipeline
Expansion into Semiconductor & Solar EPC segments
Export scale-up to the USA & Canada
Increased OEM collaborations
Capacity expansion and backward integration
The Senior Purchase / Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for end-to-end procurement strategy, vendor development, material planning, inventory optimisation, cost control, and supply chain risk management aligned with projected revenue growth.
This is a strategic leadership role, not just a transactional buying function .
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Strategic Procurement & Cost Leadership
Develop and implement procurement strategy aligned to revenue targets.
Drive annual cost reduction programs (minimum 3–5% material cost optimisation).
Negotiate rate contracts with OEM suppliers (Siemens, Schneider, ABB ecosystem vendors).
Lead high-value contract negotiations for panels, switchgear, enclosures, fabrication & components.
Develop an import sourcing strategy for critical automation components.
B. Vendor Development & Strategic Alliances
Identify and onboard qualified vendors (local & international).
Strengthen vendor base for:
HT/LT Switchgear
PLC Panels
MCC/PCC
Sheet metal fabrication
Powder coating & finishing
Implement vendor rating system (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Compliance).
Develop alternate vendor strategies to mitigate single-source risk.
C. Inventory Management
Optimise inventory turnover ratio.
Implement demand-based planning aligned to confirmed orders & pipeline.
Reduce excess WIP and dead stock.
Align procurement cycle with project milestones.
Coordinate with Finance for credit terms optimisation.
D. Project-Based Supply Chain Management
Work closely with the Engineering & Projects team to validate BOMs.
Ensure zero material delay in project execution.
Manage multi-location coordination (Coimbatore / Bangalore / Overseas shipments).
Handle export documentation coordination for the USA/Canada markets.
E. Systems & Process Strengthening
Implement ERP-driven procurement tracking.
Standardise purchase SOPs.
Establish structured purchase MIS reporting:
Cost variance analysis
Vendor performance dashboards
Lead time analysis
Introduce digital procurement automation where possible.
F. Team Leadership
Lead and mentor the Purchase & Stores team.
Build second-line leadership.
Drive cross-functional coordination (Engineering, Production, Finance).

4. Required Qualifications
B.E / B.Tech (Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial Engineering preferred)
MBA (Supply Chain / Operations) – Preferred
10–15+ years in the Engineering Manufacturing / Automation Industry
Experience handling ₹75–150 Cr material procurement annually
Strong exposure to:
Electrical components sourcing
Control panels
Switchgear
Fabrication
Industrial OEM ecosystem
5. Mandatory Skill Set
Strategic Negotiation Expertise
Vendor Network in Electrical & Automation Industry
Knowledge of IEC / UL-compliant materials
Exposure to the export supply chain
ERP proficiency (SAP / Tally ERP / Custom ERP systems)
Strong analytical & financial understanding
