Quality Engineering Lead – eCommerce Experiences.
About the Role:
We’re looking for someone who notices fragile seams long before customers ever feel them.
You’re the kind of person who hears a new eCommerce idea—whether it’s a checkout enhancement, a personalization experiment, or a major platform change—and immediately starts exploring the edges. Where could this break under real traffic? What hidden dependencies are we assuming? How does this behave when thousands of customers hit it at once on a peak day? For you, quality isn’t a gate at the end; it’s a mindset that shapes how teams build from the very beginning.
As a Quality Engineering Lead, your impact is less about executing tests yourself and more about elevating how entire squads think about quality. You’ll help teams design smarter test strategies, strengthen automation where it gives the most leverage, and build the habits, tooling, and guardrails that keep our customer experience reliable. You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure the features we ship are resilient, performant, and ready for the real world—every time.
You’ll start by deeply understanding our commerce architecture, customer journeys, and operational rhythms. From there, you’ll lead quality efforts across squads: designing strategies for complex features, shaping automation approaches, and guiding teams through performance, data, and integration risks. Over time, you’ll influence how we build software at scale—codifying patterns, mentoring engineers, and driving the shift-left practices that make quality a shared responsibility.
This isn’t a traditional “QA signs off at the end” role. Teams own their own quality. Your role is to expand their toolkit, sharpen their instincts, and raise the bar for how we test, how early we test it, and how confidently we can ship. You’re here not just to protect the customer experience—but to make the entire engineering organization better at delivering it.
What Will You Do?
Lead With a Quality Mindset
Shape early conversations around assumptions, risks, and real world customer scenarios.
Encourage teams to consider edge cases and system behavior before development begins.
Elevate How Teams Test and Build
Design practical, efficient test strategies that help squads build with confidence.
Expand automation where it increases leverage and reduces manual effort.
Promote patterns that make quality scalable across teams.
Shape and Evolve Our Automation Approach
Guide the architecture and direction of UI, API, mobile, and integration test frameworks.
Ensure automation remains reliable, maintainable, and aligned with team needs.
Support early adoption of automation within the development lifecycle.
Guide Teams Through Complexity
Help squads uncover hidden risks, dependencies, and integration pitfalls across checkout, payments, inventory, personalization, and more.
Provide clear strategies for testing complex or high impact features.
Champion Quality in Delivery Pipelines
Strengthen CI/CD pipelines with meaningful quality gates and fast feedback loops.
Improve debugging, failure detection, and overall build reliability.
Partner Across Disciplines
Collaborate with product, design, engineering, data, and DevOps teams to ensure features meet real customer expectations.
Support high quality acceptance criteria and thoughtful test planning.
Lead Through Mentorship and Influence
Mentor engineers on quality techniques, automation design, performance thinking, and better testing habits.
Influence teams through expertise and coaching—not gatekeeping.
Drive Performance, Stability, and Readiness
Lead quality readiness for major releases, peak events, and seasonal traffic spikes.
Help teams forecast risks and validate system resilience under load.
Continuously Improve How We Work
Identify patterns, gaps, and opportunities across squads and convert them into reusable tools and best practices.
Scale quality improvements beyond any single team.
