API Gateway Engineer

Team Overview This engineering group builds and maintains the ecosystem that enables third‑party developers and merchants to integrate with our marketplace platform. The team supports: Developer tools and operational applications API ecosystems used by partners Platforms that help merchants manage daily business operations We focus on providing secure, reliable, high‑performance APIs that power mission‑critical merchant workflows.

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced backend engineer to lead the evolution of our API authentication, authorization, and gateway systems. The role covers platform migration, operational ownership, and the design of a next‑generation API access platform. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, QA, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver scalable backend solutions and drive technical improvements across the service.

Key Responsibilities 1. Platform Migration (Initial Mission) Participate in an ongoing project to transition an existing backend system to a modern infrastructure stack. 2. Enhancement & Operations Improve and extend current operational systems, focusing on reliability, performance, and security. Contribute to day‑to‑day operational duties, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident response. 3. New API Platform Development After gaining domain knowledge, design and build a modern API Gateway and access-control platform. Implement authentication and authorization frameworks (e.g., OAuth 2.0, token‑based systems). Propose and develop architectural improvements to enhance API usability and developer experience. 4. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with product managers, security engineers, infrastructure specialists, QA, and business stakeholders. Participate in team rituals such as daily standups and technical syncs.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field 4+ years of hands‑on experience with

Java Strong proficiency with

Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring Security Experience designing and implementing

RESTful APIs Knowledge of API gateway technologies (e.g., Spring Cloud Gateway, Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway) Solid understanding of

microservices architecture Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Proficiency with
