Job Description

We are looking for a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL and Linux environments. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience managing large-scale production databases, handling performance tuning, high availability, and mentoring junior DBAs. Exposure to DevOps tools and Cloud platforms is a strong advantage.

Key Responsibilities

- Install, configure, administer, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in Linux / Unix operating systems - Own and manage production PostgreSQL environments with high availability and performance requirements - Perform advanced database monitoring, performance tuning, and query optimization - Design and optimize complex SQL queries, functions, views, procedures, and schemas - Implement and manage backup, restore, disaster recovery, and data retention strategies - Handle user access management, roles, privileges, and database security - Perform PostgreSQL patching, version upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning - Troubleshoot critical database issues and lead production incident resolution - Work closely with application, DevOps, infrastructure, and cloud teams - Mentor and guide junior DBAs, review their work, and provide technical leadership - Contribute to DBA standards, best practices, documentation, and automation - Participate in on-call / shift-based support and ensure SLA compliance - Ability to setup or contribute to the DBA capability /practice initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 6–10 years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA - Strong expertise in PostgreSQL SQL and internals - Excellent hands-on experience with Linux / Unix systems - Strong understanding of:

1. Indexing strategies 2. Query execution plans 3. Vacuum / Autovacuum tuning 4. Replication (Streaming, Logical) 5. High Availability and Failover concepts

- Proven experience working in production database environments - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills - Experience in handling performance bottlenecks and database incidents - Ability to lead technical discussions and guide junior team members

Good to Have (Plus Skills)

- Exposure to Cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP) - Experience with DevOps concepts and tools - CI/CD pipelines and database automation - Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.) - Knowledge of containerization (Docker / Kubernetes) - Experience with database migration tools - Scripting experience (Shell / Python) for automation
