Senior Sybase & PostgreSQL Database Migration Expert Experience:

8+ years Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled database expert with strong experience in Sybase (ASE / SQL Anywhere) and PostgreSQL who can lead and drive complex database migration initiatives. The ideal candidate should be capable of deeply analyzing database structures, understanding legacy SQL dialects, and providing expert guidance in transforming Sybase workloads to PostgreSQL. The role also requires active collaboration with internal engineering teams and direct engagement with client stakeholders. Key Responsibilities: •Lead and support end-to-end migration of Sybase databases to PostgreSQL. •Analyze existing Sybase environments including schemas, database objects, stored procedures, triggers, and complex SQL logic. •Work extensively with Sybase SQL dialects including legacy implementations such as SQL Anywhere and other older Sybase versions, translating them to PostgreSQL-compatible implementations. •Identify migration risks, compatibility issues, and performance considerations, and propose effective solutions. •Take technical ownership of migration tasks, ensuring accuracy, performance, and completeness of the migrated database. •Actively contribute to the development and improvement of internal migration tools and automation frameworks used for Sybase to PostgreSQL transformations. •Collaborate with engineering teams to define migration strategies, validation processes, and best practices. •Engage directly with customers to understand technical requirements, clarify database-related queries, and provide expert recommendations. •Participate in client discussions, demonstrations, and technical walkthroughs related to database migration capabilities and solutions. •Provide deep technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex database issues encountered during migration. •Mentor and train internal team members, enabling them to understand Sybase environments, migration challenges, and PostgreSQL best practices. •Support internal knowledge sharing, documentation, and capability building around database migration frameworks. •Evaluate complex legacy database implementations and provide architectural guidance for modernization and optimization in PostgreSQL. •Assist in defining migration validation strategies, testing frameworks, and performance tuning approaches for migrated workloads. •Work closely with solution architects and leadership teams to shape migration strategies for client engagements. Required Skills & Experience: •Strong hands-on expertise with Sybase databases (ASE, SQL Anywhere, or legacy Sybase environments). •Deep experience with PostgreSQL database architecture and performance tuning. •Proven experience in database migration projects, especially Sybase to PostgreSQL. •Strong knowledge of SQL dialect differences, query rewriting, and database object transformations. •Experience handling large and complex enterprise database systems. •Ability to deep dive into legacy database logic and translate it into modern PostgreSQL implementations. •Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex database behavior. •Strong communication skills to interact with clients, architects, and engineering teams. •Experience contributing to internal tools, automation frameworks, or migration accelerators is highly desirable
