Here’s a breakdown of the essential skill set: Technical Acumen: Ability to understand the technical details, architecture, and integration points of the platform product. This includes reading technical documentation, understanding APIs, and grasping system dependencies to effectively communicate with engineering teams and troubleshoot adoption blockers. Stakeholder Engagement: Proactively reach out to application and engineering teams to secure their commitment to adopt the platform. This involves influencing without authority, building relationships, and aligning adoption goals with business priorities. Follow-up and Coordination: Strong organizational skills to drive multiple teams toward adoption milestones. This includes frequent follow-ups, tracking progress, and ensuring teams are unblocked and on schedule. Status Reporting: Ability to synthesize adoption progress and report out statuses to leadership and stakeholders. This includes creating dashboards, status reports, and executive summaries that highlight achievements, risks, and next steps. Strategic Planning: Develop and adjust strategies to maximize adoption. This involves analyzing adoption data, identifying bottlenecks, prioritizing high-impact teams, and iterating on engagement tactics to improve adoption rates. Cross-functional Communication: Serve as the interface between adopting teams and the platform product team. Communicate status updates, roadblocks, and changes in strategy clearly and promptly. Facilitate feedback loops to ensure the platform evolves to meet user needs. Problem Solving and Escalation: Identify and escalate roadblocks or technical issues to the appropriate teams. Work with support, engineering, and leadership to resolve blockers efficiently. Change Management: Guide teams through the change curve, address resistance, and ensure smooth onboarding by providing training, documentation, and support resources. Documentation and Enablement: Ensure onboarding guides, FAQs, and troubleshooting materials are up-to-date and accessible, enabling teams to self-serve where possible. These skills collectively enable a TPM to drive successful platform adoption, maximize impact, and ensure alignment between technical and business objectives.
