1. Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced
SAP S/4HANA Payroll Lead (India Payroll)
with strong hands-on experience in payroll operations, configuration, and support within a
manufacturing industry environment
.
The role involves
end-to-end payroll management
, ongoing
operations & maintenance (O&M)
,
implementation of new compensation structures
, and
handling business-driven payroll enhancements
, including functional design for custom developments.
2. Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations & Support
Execute and support
end-to-end India Payroll processing
on
SAP S/4HANA
.
Handle
monthly payroll runs
, off-cycle payroll, arrears, bonuses, settlements, and statutory deductions.
Perform
payroll reconciliation
, variance analysis, and payroll validation.
Manage
year-end payroll activities
, Form 16 generation, and statutory reporting, Agreement implementation, Annual Increment related changes .
Operations & Maintenance (O&M)
Provide
L2/L3 support
for payroll-related incidents and service requests.
Troubleshoot payroll errors, wage type issues, retro calculations, and schema/rule-related problems.
Ensure
payroll system stability
, data accuracy, and compliance with internal controls.
Configuration & Enhancements
Configure and maintain:
Wage types
Schemas & PCRs
Pay structures
Allowances, deductions, incentives, and reimbursements
Implement
new compensation components
and modify existing structures based on business requirements.
Support changes arising from
organizational policies, union agreements, or statutory updates
.
Business Requirement Handling
Work closely with
HR, Finance, and Business stakeholders
to gather payroll-related requirements.
Analyse and translate business needs into
functional payroll solutions
.
Proactively recommend process improvements and system optimizations.
Custom Development Support
Prepare
Functional Specifications (FS)
and
Technical Specifications (TS)
for payroll-related custom developments.
Coordinate with ABAP/technical teams for development, testing, and deployment.
Support
unit testing, integration testing, and UAT
for payroll enhancements.
Compliance & Statutory Management
Ensure compliance with
India payroll statutory requirements
, including:
PF
ESI
PT
LWF
Income Tax (TDS)
Track and implement statutory changes impacting payroll configuration and calculations.
3. Required Skills & Experience
Mandatory Skills
5–6 years of hands-on experience in
SAP Payroll (India)
.
Strong experience with
SAP S/4HANA Payroll
.
Experience working in a
manufacturing industry payroll environment
.
In-depth knowledge of:
India Payroll schema & PCRs
Wage type configuration
Retroactive payroll processing
Proven experience in
O&M support
and payroll production environments.
Experience in
FS & TS documentation
for payroll customizations.
Functional & Technical Knowledge
SAP HCM Payroll (India)
Integration knowledge with:
Time Management
Organizational Management
Finance (FI) for payroll posting
Understanding of
payroll posting, GL mapping, and reconciliation
.
4. Desired / Good-to-Have Skills
Experience with
large employee base payrolls
in manufacturing setups.
Exposure to
unionized workforce payroll
.
Knowledge of
SAP Notes
, OSS messages, and payroll legal changes.
Experience in
migration or stabilization projects
on S/4HANA.
Strong documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a
production payroll environment

Good communication skills to interact with business users and technical teams.
