Research Engineer (Volunteer)

Company Description Qinārā AI Lab is an emerging interdisciplinary AI research lab focused on integrating healthcare research, legal analysis, technical innovation, and cultural projects to support and amplify queer lives in India. Through collaboration with queer and trans communities, the lab develops initiatives such as accessible policy briefs, safety audits, experimental technology prototypes, and creative media projects. By centering on queer agency and joy, their work aims to advance social, legal, and medical equity for queer and trans individuals. The lab's primary research includes trans healthcare, risk assessment, creative technology, and storytelling through visual and performing arts. Their mission is to help make India a safe and globally recognized jurisdiction for queer and trans communities.

Role Description This is a remote, contract volunteer position for a Research Engineer at Qinārā AI Lab. The Research Engineer will work on designing and developing experimental technology prototypes, engaging in research and development, and contributing to the lab’s interdisciplinary research projects. Key tasks will include creating, testing, and refining algorithms, conducting research to derive innovative solutions, and collaborating with other team members and partner organizations. Proactive communication and an iterative development process will be central to this role.

Qualifications Strong background in Computer Science and familiarity with software development processes Proficient understanding of Research, Research and Development (R&D), and data analysis Knowledge of Physics concepts and experience working with Algorithms Strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work independently Interest in queer and trans studies or prior experience in interdisciplinary research is a plus
