KPMG Indiaโs Digital Government Advisory (DGA) practice helps government bodies modernize public services through technology. It offers strategic consulting, digital architecture, and sector-specific solutions across areas like transport, water, justice, and finance. The team enables large-scale e-Governance, data analytics, and automation to improve efficiency and citizen experience.
>>About the Role:
The State Data Center Manager will oversee end-to-end operations of the State Data Center(s), ensuring high availability, security, and compliance for e-Governance applications and shared services. This role involves managing IT infrastructure, facilities, vendors, and service providers while driving operational excellence and meeting stringent SLAs.
>>Key Responsibilities:
1. Operations & Service Management
Manage 24ร7 operations for compute, storage, networking, virtualization, backup/DR, and shared services (DNS, email, directory, monitoring).
Lead NOC/SOC operations, incident/problem/change management, and RCA.
Define and enforce SLAs/OLAs for hosted applications and infrastructure.
Maintain CMDB, SOPs, runbooks, and operational dashboards.
2. Infrastructure & Capacity
Plan and optimize capacity for compute, storage, and network.
Manage virtualization/hyperconverged platforms, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and hybrid cloud integration.
Oversee DC facilities: power, cooling, fire suppression, access control, cabling, and rack planning.
3. Security, Compliance & Risk
Implement and monitor security controls (SIEM, endpoint protection, vulnerability management).
Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, CERT-In advisories, and government IT security guidelines.
Conduct risk assessments, BCP/DR drills, penetration tests, and manage audits.
4. DR, Backup & High Availability
Architect and manage backup policies and restore testing.
Maintain DR sites, replication, and failover procedures; conduct periodic drills.
5. Vendor & Contract Management
Govern MSP/SI contracts, performance, and deliverables.
Manage procurement lifecycle: RFPs, technical evaluations, acceptance testing, AMC/renewals.
Coordinate with OEMs for support and migrations.
6. Governance & Stakeholder Management
Act as SPOC for departments hosting at the SDC.
Prepare management reports on uptime, SLA adherence, incidents, and compliance.
Drive technology refresh and continuous improvement initiatives.
7. Documentation & Knowledge Management
Maintain architecture diagrams, asset registers, and contract repositories.
Ensure SOPs/runbooks are current; deliver training for L1/L2/L3 teams.
>>Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelorโs degree in Engineering/Technology/Computer Science; Masterโs preferred.
10+ years of experience in data center or large-scale IT infrastructure operations; 3โ5 years in managerial roles.
Hands-on experience with:
Servers (x86), SAN/NAS storage, enterprise networking (L2/L3, SDN), firewalls, IPS/IDS.
Virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V/KVM), HCI, containers (Docker/Kubernetes), automation tools.
Monitoring (NMS/APM/SIEM), backup/DR solutions, identity & access management.
Proven track record managing 24ร7 operations and high-availability architectures.
Experience with government/public-sector policies and audits is a plus.
>>Preferred Skills:
ITIL v4, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor.
VMware VCP, Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Red Hat, Azure/AWS/GCP certifications.
Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), PMP/PRINCE2 (optional).
