About the Opportunity A founder-led technology startup has secured a fully allowed patent for a breakthrough innovation in the field of electrical engineering. The company is now assembling a world-class, globally distributed research and development team to transform this patented concept into a fully realized solution, and to pursue strategic federal funding through the U.S. Department of Energy.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced engineering, federal policy, and transformative technology. Team members will collaborate directly with the founder and CEO, contributing expertise and creative thinking to shape a solution that delivers measurable, real-world impact to the target population.

Roles We Are Seeking to Fill We are building a multi-disciplinary team across the following functional areas: ⚡ Senior Research Engineer Lead technical research; expand the patented concept into full solution architecture and system design. Federal Grant & RFP Specialist Author and coordinate RFP submissions to the DOE; ensure technical accuracy and compelling narrative throughout. Applied Sciences Researcher Bridge lab-stage innovation to real-world application through rigorous applied research and feasibility analysis. ✍ Technical Writer & Communications Lead Translate complex engineering findings into polished deliverables for technical and non-technical stakeholders alike. Innovation Strategist / Technology & Energy Sustainability Advisor Advise on the strategic pathway from patent to commercialized product; identify market opportunities, policy alignment, and scalability pathways.

Core Responsibilities •

Collaborate directly with the founder and CEO to understand the patented innovation and its intended real-world impact •

Expand the patented concept into a technically robust, market-ready solution through structured research and engineering analysis •

Draft, structure, and refine a compelling Request for Proposal (RFP) submission to the U.S. Department of Energy •

Articulate both the technical specifications and the human-centered benefits of the innovation for the target population •

Conduct literature reviews, feasibility analyses, and prototype or system assessments as applicable to the project phase •

Produce high-quality written deliverables: research reports, technical summaries, grant narratives, and executive briefs •

Participate in founder-led team meetings and milestone reviews, communicating progress clearly and proactively •

Apply systems thinking to identify downstream implications, regulatory considerations, and long-term scalability pathways •

Serve as a bridge between the founder's vision and actionable engineering and strategic outputs

Required Qualifications •

Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Sciences, or a closely related discipline •

Demonstrated experience in research and development within an engineering or energy-adjacent field •

Proven ability to translate a patented or early-stage concept into an expanded, solution-ready framework •

Experience drafting federal grant proposals, RFPs, or technical reports for government agencies — DOE experience strongly preferred •

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex technical content to diverse audiences •

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with a founder and capture the essence of a vision •

Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving priorities and high expectations for output quality •

Global candidates welcome; must be able to collaborate effectively across time zones in English

Preferred Qualifications •

Prior experience with U.S. Department of Energy or similar programs, solicitations, or funding mechanisms (e.g., ARPA-E, EERE, OE) •

Background in energy systems, power electronics, grid technology, or related sub-disciplines of electrical engineering •

Experience supporting a startup or early-stage venture from concept through commercialization •

Familiarity with IP strategy, patent landscape analysis, or technology transfer processes •

Published research, white papers, or policy briefs in relevant technical areas •

Multilingual capabilities — particularly relevant given the global scope of the team
