HIRING COMMUNITY MANAGER
Location: Marol, Andheri East, Mumbai (5 days office + Saturday WFH)
Experience: 4-7 years
Notice Period: Immediate to 30 days only
ABOUT GAJAB :
GAJAB is building India's first AI-powered bargaining marketplace that recreates traditional bazaar culture digitally. We're targeting tier 2/3 India families earning Rs 15-50K monthly, aiming for 100 Cr GMV through 20 lakh annual orders within first year. We're a bootstrapped startup of 25+ people preserving India's bazaar heritage through digital innovation. We're approaching launch and building aggressively.
THE ROLE :
We need someone to build GAJAB's community infrastructure from absolute zero to 1 lakh+ members across every possible platform. This is not a maintain-existing-communities role. This is a build everything-from-scratch, high-volume, multi-platform community building machine role.
You will be building four parallel community pillars simultaneously:
Early adopter communities who'll test our product and provide feedback
Brand advocates and loyal first users who'll champion us at launch
A network of 200+ loot/deal/offers channels and groups who'll work as affiliates and distribution channels
Post launch, transition to managing active customer and seller communities on the platform
You'll work across every platform that matters: WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Discord, Facebook Groups, Reddit, Quora, X, Mauj, Roposo, Chingari, Medium, Substack, LinkedIn, Blog, YouTube, and any other distribution channel that can drive results.
WHAT YOU'LL DO :
Community Seeding and Growth
Launch and grow communities on every possible platforms in your first 30 days
Execute aggressive member acquisition tactics to hit 20K members in month 1, 50K by month 2, 1 lakh+ by month 3
Run engagement campaigns, affiliate programs, viral loops, whatever works to grow fast
Build excitement and anticipation for GAJAB across all communities
Partnership and Distribution Building
Cold outreach to loot/deal channels, bargain hunting groups, cashback communities, affiliate networks
Identify, pitch, negotiate, and onboard 50+ partnerships in first month, 100+ by month 2, 200+ by month 3
Build relationships with channel owners, group admins, influencers in deals/offers space
Create systems to activate these partnerships the moment GAJAB launches
Community Moderation and Engagement
Keep communities active, engaged, and excited
Respond to queries, moderate discussions, handle conflicts
Maintain authentic tier 2/3 India voice across all platforms
Create engagement mechanics that work for non-metro audiences
Analytics and Optimization
Track growth metrics, engagement rates, partnership quality in Google Sheets
Test different tactics across platforms, double down on what works, kill what doesn't
Prepare reports for founder showing what's working and what's not
Use data to continuously optimize community building approach
Strategy and Experimentation
Figure out which platforms work best for GAJAB's audience through rapid testing
Experiment with different acquisition tactics, engagement formats, partnership models
Build playbooks documenting what works for future team members
Stay on top of new platforms and trends in tier 2/3 India
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR :
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
4-7 years experience with proven track record of building communities of 50K+ members from scratch
Deep understanding of tier 2/3 India audiences, their language, behavior, and preferences (lived experience or extensive work experience required)
Startup experience only, no corporate backgrounds, comfortable with chaos and building from zero
Existing network or deep knowledge of loot/deal/offers ecosystem, Telegram deal groups, cashback communities, affiliate channels
Demonstrated ability to manage 5+ platforms simultaneously with results to show
Must have specific examples and proof of communities you've built and scaled
Language and Communication:
Fluent in Hinglish, comfortable code-switching between Hindi and English
Understand internet culture, memes, tier 2/3 India communication style
Can write authentically for non-metro Indian audiences
Technical Proficiency:
Expert with community management tools: Telegram bots, WhatsApp Business API, Discord servers, Facebook Group admin tools
Comfortable tracking everything in Google Sheets
Quick learner for any new platforms or tools needed
Cultural Fit:
Hustler mentality: Scrappy, resourceful, finds jugaad solutions, doesn't wait for perfect conditions
Extroverted networker: Loves building relationships, comfortable with cold outreach, talks to everyone
Data-driven optimizer: Always tracking numbers, testing approaches, optimizing based on results

Community size: 1 lakh+ members across all platforms
Engagement rates: High interaction, not just passive members
Distribution network: 200+ active loot/deal channel partnerships ready to drive transactions
Launch impact: How much these communities contribute to GMV and orders at launch
Balanced performance across all metrics, not just one
30-60-90 Day Deliverables:
First 30 days: Every possible platform live, 20K members, 50+ loot/deal partnerships initiated
First 60 days: 50K+ members, 100+ active partnerships, engagement playbooks created, analytics dashboard setup
First 90 days: 1 lakh+ members, 200+ partnerships, fully operational multi-platform strategy, launch amplification campaigns executed
THE REALITY CHECK (What makes this role difficult) :
We're being completely transparent about the challenges because we want someone who's genuinely excited despite these difficulties:
Building for Launch: You're building community infrastructure rapidly while preparing for product launch. Speed and adaptability are critical.
Resource Constraints: We're bootstrapped. No big marketing budgets. You'll need to find organic, low-cost, scrappy growth tactics. Jugaad is not optional, it's required.
High-Volume Workload: Managing 10+ platforms, 200+ partnerships, 1 lakh+ members simultaneously is genuinely demanding. This is not a 9-to-5 maintain-communities job. This is intense.
Constant Experimentation: Most things won't work. You need high tolerance for failure and rapid iteration. What works on Instagram won't work on Telegram. You'll figure it out through trial and error.
Uncharted Territory: AI-powered bargaining marketplace for tier 2/3 India is new. No proven playbook exists. You're writing the playbook.
Scaling Pressure: We need aggressive numbers fast, but they need to be real, engaged communities, not fake numbers. Quality and quantity both matter.
GROWTH PATH:
You start solo, building everything from scratch. Within 3-6 months, as communities scale, you'll hire and manage 2-3 team members (community moderators, partnership managers, or platform specialists). Clear path to team leadership within the community vertical.
INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Three rounds:
HR Screening (30 mins): Basic fitment, experience verification, availability check
Technical/Competency Round with Team (60 mins): Deep dive into past work, platform expertise, strategic thinking, culture fit assessment
Founder Round (45 mins): Vision alignment, final evaluation, offer discussion
No assignments or case studies. We'll evaluate through conversation and your demonstrated past work.
COMPENSATION :
Flexible based on candidate profile, experience, and track record. We're open to discussing structure that works for exceptional candidates.
WORK ARRANGEMENT :
6-day work week: 5 days in office (Marol, Andheri East, Mumbai) & Saturday Work From Home
Office hours: 10 AM - 7 PM
Always-on mindset required: Communities run 24/7, urgent issues may need attention outside office hours
